Blackwing V8 Has More Torque than Cadillac Thought
Blackwing twin-turbo V8 was designed for the CT6-V, but rumors say it may find its way into other Cadillac models in the future.
Are you having a rough day? Allow the following sentence to brighten it up for you. Cadillac revealed that its twin-turbo V8, dubbed ‘Blackwing,’ makes more torque than they initially thought. We can’t think of many things better than a V8 having more power than they advertised!
According to GM Authority, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) found the engine outputs 550 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque. While Cadillac’s initial estimate read 627 pound-feet, we definitely aren’t complaining about the extra 13! We can’t imagine buyers will oppose it, either.
Unfortunately, the 2019 CT6-V is still not being delivered, despite all 275 units selling out within hours of becoming available in January. Due to emissions regulations, GM put off the delivery of the vehicles. However, reports say the issue has been resolved, and the CT6-V is back on track for delivery.
Hopefully, the CT6 is everything it is said to be. If it is, it seems to be entirely worth the wait. The 550 horsepower sedan truly epitomizes everything the V badge stands for. It’s a loud and proud American machine that will gladly whip up some tire smoke with it’s screaming V8. Meanwhile, you can rest easy inside with your plush leather seats and adjustable magnetic ride. Historically, the V series cars have been a no-compromise demonstration of everything Cadillac is capable of. Spanning from luxury and comfort suited for wall-street traders to gut-wrenching performance, that even the most civil citizen couldn’t resist smiling over.
“Cadillac V-Series is the embodiment of our passion to deliver an exhilarating driving experience without compromises. The all-new CT6-V provides the perfect balance of performance and luxurious refinement.” said former Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen in a recent press statement.
Overall the recent news surrounding the Blackwing engine is primarily positive. Those who have the limited sedan on order will see more torque than they thought, and it looks like GM will be delivering them soon. Additionally, there are rumors the powerhouse twin-turbo V8 will find its way into other Cadillac models, such as the Escalade.
