Blue Flame Exhaust From Stock Z06? Yes, It's Possible!

Only certain Z06 owners will ever be able to get their car to shoot a blue flame. One YouTuber shows the trick.

Modern supercars have an ability to eject blue flame projectiles out of their exhaust systems. It’s a wonderful sight, and a great exhibition of performance and speed. And now, a YouTuber has discovered the definitive trick to getting your C8 Z06 to do exactly the same. Coming full circle, the Corvette goes from a “Blue Flame” six cylinder engine, to a blue fire breathing monster.

The trick comes not from any tune, or any exhaust system. Instead it comes more from the willingness of the Z06 owner. You see, YouTuber Jesse Iwuji has the trick. Drive your car hard.

Being that the color of the flame is faint in some instances, it’s easiest to see at night. That’s why Iwuji is filming just after sunset. He’s on some very pretty mountain roads, and is keeping the engine on the boil. And that’s key, because the exhaust has to be hot in order for this flame to make an appearance.

So if you want this, you’ll have to kick your Z06 out of the comfort of the garage. And you’ll have to get comfortable with leaning on your Z06. Find a local set of enthusiast friendly roads, keep your car in an appropriate gear ratio, and viola. The flames occur during each up shift. Sometimes it’s a hit or miss, but more often than not, you’ll be greeted with a unique license plate illumination feature that wasn’t mentioned in the brochure. Unfortunately, from the driver’s seat, you can’t see this little party trick.

And while we’re not chemists, we understand that the blue flame is actually a sign of a very good engine. High compression engines typically have this blue flame. It’s apparently from an abundance of oxygen in the exhaust, which is atypical for highly strung motors. There’s kits that can be added to some cars to have bright yellow and orange flashes of fire, but the blue stuff means this is an LT6 at work. And we like seeing that.
