C8 Corvette Dealer Prices Means Nose Bleeds for the Wallet

$100,000 C8 Corvette

C8 Corvettes are the hottest thing around, and some dealers will do anything to make tons of cash, even on lower trim models.

Corvettes of any stripe are pretty hot, especially when they were new. We’re talking about dealer markups, of course. Chevy can set whatever MSRP they want for a given ‘Vette, but if the new car is super-popular — like the C8 — a few dealers brush the suggested price aside for big profits.

If you’re in the market for a C8, be prepared to pay or walk away. Combing through CarGurus recently, we found at So Cal Motors in Montclair, California selling a 2LT C8 for — and you might want to sit down for this — $103,777!

$100,000 C8 Corvette

CarGurus notes the price is considered a “fair deal,” as it’s $2,694 below market in the area. But is it a fair deal, though? You better put down any beverages, lest you end up having to clean up your screens. What we found will disappoint you, to say the least.

$100,000 C8 Corvette Window Sticker

This is the window sticker for this particular C8, per MonroneyLabels.com. Originally, the car retailed for $68,505 when new. Options included the upgrade to the 2LT trim, performance exhaust, and a front plate bracket (alas, California’s a two-plate state). Not a bad price, right?

The Arctic White ‘Vette returned to the dealership after just 2,556 miles, though. Thus, it’s a lightly-used ride. And yet, the price jumped up $35,272? It barely makes sense for a new C8, but such a price for a used C8 is beyond the pale. And it’s not even a top-tier 3LT model with the Z51 package!

$100,000 C8 Corvette

We’ve reported on similar shenanigans before, such as the time we found a new 3LT for $160,000 deep in the heart of Texas. But that was a new car. What justifies a six-figure price on a used C8 Corvette whose original price was just $35,000 less?

That’s not all, however. Our friends at Corvette Forum reported on another Texas dealership dropping an additional $10,000 on a forum member’s C8 without telling him they would do so up front. We suppose everyone’s gotta make money. We don’t have to like the methods or the madness, though.
