C8 Corvette Is Truly a Force to Be Reckoned With
Matt Farah takes the new mid-engine C8 Corvette around Thunderhill Raceway, and the handling performance looks astonishing.
It wasn’t long ago we were all drooling just for a glimpse of the C8 Corvette. Now, though, we get to see it in action.
Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire YouTube channel takes us on a wild ride in a top trim C8 Corvette around the course at Thunderhill Raceway West. The 3LT and Z51 packages are both equipped, meaning they have all the bells and whistles. At long last, we get to see the 495 horsepower dry-sump LT2 V8 in unadulterated fashion right where it belongs. On a race track.
Farah does not step into the track lightly. The second he clears the pits, he immediately gets on it, and for that, we’re grateful. What ensues looks like an incredible driving experience that Corvette engineers of years past could only dream of.
“The steering ratio, they say, is the same as the C7, but moving the cockpit forward, I could swear it’s more direct,” says Farah.
The turn-in bite looks insane. The car darts right into the apex and grips up like an actual thoroughbred race car.
“Hello NSX and Ferrari, we are coming for you,” Farah continues.
Initially, Farah seems excited by the interior choice to position everything towards the driver. However, later on, he recounts riding in it as a passenger, and how it feels as if there is a big wall between you and the driver. That being said, he mentions that this is an early pre-production car, so you shouldn’t dwell on the interior of this particular ‘Vette.
So while his interior observations are worth noting, it’s evident that this video’s primary focus is the driving experience. So how is it?
Well, put, the expression you’re seeing on the man’s face tells all. It’s worth noting that Farah has driven everything from a triple turbo McLaren to actual purpose-built track cars, and everything in between. If him covering his mouth and giggling like a schoolgirl isn’t enough to convince you, we’ll leave you with his own words.
“Oh my god. That is a driving experience that is not to be missed by fans of cars. I mean, simply extraordinary. Simply extraordinary. Bravo. I’m blown away, extremely impressed,” he says, struggling to find words to express his driving experience.
All we can say for sure is that we’re going to re-watch the track clips over and over because we can’t get enough. The C8 Corvette performance looks like everything we could hope for.
