Camaro SuperFest 2017: Best of Fifth and Sixth Gen Camaro, 2010-Present

Camaro SuperFest coverage ends with latest Camaros, generation five and six.

In case you missed it, LS1tech was at the 26th annual Camaro SuperFest outside of Detroit. There was, of course, much to do, between track time at Waterford Hills, visiting the GM Heritage Center, and a trip to the Lingenfelter collection. However, today’s highlights signify the end of our event coverage. We have seen generations one through four of the Camaro, today, we can complete the set with generations five and six, bringing us to the present.

Up first were laps at Waterford Hills circuit, on the outskirts of Waterford, Michigan. This small track is nestled in the hills, and very picturesque in the bask of the Michigan Summer.

Thanks to the fine folks at General Motors, I was able to cruise in style, with a 2017 Camaro (full review coming soon).

Time to check out some late-model steel. After an 8 year hiatus, the Camaro name came back in a big way. In its bright yellow hue, it exploded into the public consciousness as Bumblebee in the Transformers movie. In fact, even to this day, movie-themed Camaros are still roaming about. At Camaro SuperFest, a handful of them gathered together. Black Panther, Deadpool, and many others were represented.

While the Deadpool car was an all-out effort (see the video above), the black car on the right was subtle about what was under the hood. Winning both show car points and bad ass street car points, it sported an SLP supercharged engine and had been signed by several big Camaro personalities.

Second only to the Krypton Green color as seen on the ZL1 in the video, Hyper Blue Metallic is far and away the sexiest sixth-gen color.

Of course, reds and yellows seem to be the staple bright color choices for Camaro owners. “Bumblebee” yellow really did become synonymous with the fifth-gen cars. Personally, it’s not for me. The sixth-gen has a more pale yellow that seems fairer to my eye.

Oh, and I would be remiss to not take a picture of one of these in the year 2017. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Camaro, having been born in 1967 in response to the Mustang. Chevrolet has released 50th anniversary cars, with among other things, a stand out colorway and striping package. Also note the “fifty” badging on the fenders, bespoke wheels and ZL1-inspired fascias. Bumped into a couple of these cars over the weekend and they all looked stellar.

Also in attendance were a number of fifth-gen ZL1 cars. With their supercharged LSA V8 engines, the ZL1 was an absolute jaw-dropper when it first came out. It, alongside the LS7-powered Z28 really went toe-to-toe with European sports cars.

Obviously, more cars were in attendance, the official head count was over 800 cars. However, we will cut this short lest we start rambling. Let’s end with this loud fifth-gen car spinning the rollers as seen in the video. Camaro SuperFest was a blast, and hopefully we are invited out next year to cover the madness.
