This Chevy-Powered Ferrari Screams F* the Haters

The Ferrari 250 family of cars is continually setting records with their outrageous auction prices. The 250 GTO and California models have changed hands with prices in the eight-digit range. This Ferrari 250 GTE will not be one of those record setters. While it may have the mind-numbingly beautiful Pinninfarina bodywork, and the legendary prancing horse on the hood, there is very little of this Ferrari that is original, or even Italian.

Starting with the obvious, that mighty intake coming from that hole where a hood should be is most definitely not Italian. That is none other than a Chevy 302. Moving back from the hella-awesome V8 we have the transmission from a Dodge Viper and a nine-inch rear end from Ford. It wasn’t enough to make Ferrari lunatics angry once, this guy had to put pieces from all of the “Big Three” into this Frankenstallion.

As a final insult/hilariously awesome addition, the paint color comes directly from the Mitsubishi catalogue.

If you are curious why anyone would do this, there is actually a pretty simple explanation, and owner/creator Joe Allesandrino goes over it in the video. Basically, since the 250 GTE is less desirable than the GTO version, but uses the exact same chassis and drivetrain, people will buy GTEs, drop all the greasy bits to have a GTO clone made, and then they dump the bodies. Joe picked up that body and made his dream machine you see here.

In short, the reason the only original part is the body, is because that was all he had to start with.

You can learn a lot more about this amazing piece of automotive madness in the video below, as well as hear that classic Chevy V8 bellow and snort. It’s worth the seven minutes of your day it takes to watch.
