The CT6 Fails to Inspire Confidence in Cadillac

Dear Readers,

For the last few decades, Cadillac as a brand has floundered. They’ve floundered to find an audience that’s looking at the inside of 80+ years old. And they’ve floundered on building a brand that can compete with the likes of the Germans. However, in the past few years, there have been glimmers of hope. The ATS is quite good, the last generation CTS-V was amazing. That said, everything else has still kind of sucked.

Now Cadillac has debuted its flagship, the CT6, in New York for this year’s auto show. And well, I’m not exactly impressed. The exterior looks like every other Cadillac from the past 5 years, and the interior appears to be lifted from just some car.

It’s not the executive interior that one would look for when thinking about most like a hundred thousand dollar automobile. It doesn’t offer the same flair, or elegance that the Germans all do. Even Audi has a better interior in the A8 than this, and their essentially tied with VW’s interiors at the moment.

This car looks half assed to be honest and I know many of you will fight with me on that. But Cadillac deserves something epic. They deserve to be thought of as a high class brand. And frankly this doesn’t cut it. When the company showed off the El Miraj last year, everyone was stunned.

The car was absolutely astounding. It looked and felt like the Cadillac the company needed. Then began all the leaks from this car and well, it’s nothing like that gorgeous concept. Essentially, this is just another big GM sedan and I could really care less about it. And that’s the problem. This does nothing to invoke a primal response, or even a response that wants luxury. It just looks like a rebadged Chevy, and Cadillac can’t afford that right now.

Hopefully, Cadillac has something up its sleeve in the coming few years, because this is definitely not going to be the car that saves the company.
