Heritage Edition Camaro a 1-Of-100 Japanese Exclusive
Extremely-limited, JDM-exclusive Rally Green Camaro special edition joins revised 2020 lineup.
Here in the U.S., enthusiasts of Japanese automobiles often sit by the wayside and watch automakers release all the cool models in the land of the rising sun. Sometimes, it’s just special editions that receive the Japan-only treatment. Other times, it’s an entire model or model range. But rarely do you see an American manufacturer develop a special edition specifically for the JDM market. So we were a little surprised to see Chevrolet is doing exactly that with its new Heritage Edition Camaro.
The Heritage Edition Camaro is new for 2020 and exclusive to Japan. But on the bright side, it’s essentially just an appearance package, albeit a good one. Each of these special Camaro models comes painted Rally Green Metallic with white stripes. The color is a nod to the Rally Green originally seen on the first Camaro. Just 100 Heritage Camaros will be built in total – 30 LT RS, 20 convertibles, and 40 SS.
But the Heritage Edition Camaro isn’t the only notable Japanese Camaro news for 2020. JDM models will also be adopting GM’s new, updated styling for the car instead of sticking with the controversial old design. This may seem like the type of decision that makes itself, but apparently it wasn’t a lock. We’re guessing that Japanese customers had the same reaction to the previous front end that we Americans did, but who knows.
It’s also worth noting that those looking to buy a Camaro in Japan must pay dearly for the privilege. Pricing for the Heritage Edition Camaro comes in at $51k for an LT RS, $58k for a drop top, and $68k for an SS. Interestingly, the regular non-special edition LT RS and convertible cost the same. The SS, however, is cheaper, with a $64k price tag. But here in the U.S., we only pay around $26k for an LT RS and $35k for an SS. Which makes them a bargain by comparison.
All of this makes us wonder – do Japanese fans of American cars look at our rides the same way American JDM fans look at theirs? Probably. Regardless, if you’re in the former category, you can place your order for a Heritage Edition Camaro now, with deliveries of that model and all 2020 Camaros expected by summer.
