Get your hands (temporarily) on a 480 hp Camaro SS or 750 hp ZL1 in select cities beginning in mid-October.

For decades now, Mustang guys have had all the fun. At least when it comes to a select few high performance rental options from Hertz. Now, finally, the company famous for renting out tire-shredding black and gold Fords is throwing the GM guys a bone. They’ve teamed up with Hendrick Motorsports to build a total of 224 hi-po Camaro rentals that’ll soon be available in select cities. Even better, you get your choice of two very different power levels.

Both of the Hertz/Hendrick Camaro offerings come equipped with a distinctive black paint job with yellow stripes. Both also have a series of added logos and special touches to let you know that they were built by the mega-successful NASCAR team. Aside from that, the biggest difference between these two cars is power. And it’s a pretty massive gap of 270 ponies.

The “lesser” Camaro rental is based on the SS, to which Hendrick adds a handful of upgrades. This includes Chevy’s Performance Upgrade Package consisting of a cold air intake and cat-back exhaust. Total output is 480 hp, a modest gain over stock. The SS also comes with unique 20-inch satin black wheels and a strut tower brace. Of course, this “base” Camaro makes up the bulk of the cars Hertz is offering, totaling 200 of the 224.

Those seeking more of a thrill will certainly find it with the ZL1 version of the Hertz/Hendrick Camaro. Fitted with a larger Callaway supercharger, this contender for greatest rental car of all time lays down an impressive 750 hp. It too features custom wheels and a bunch of badges, embroidery, and lighted door sill plates in case you forget what you’re driving. You’ll have a harder time finding one, of course, since only 24 are being produced.

If you’re looking to get your hands on one of these awesome rentals, you might need to take a trip. They’ll be available in mid-October for a limited time, but only at select city airports. As of now, the ZL1 can be rented in Charlotte, Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando, and Phoenix. The SS will be available in Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Houston, Nashville, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and San Diego.

There are other limitations as well, as you might imagine. The ZL1 starts out at $299 per day, while the SS begins at $99. But only 75 miles per day are included at that cost. Any additional miles will run you 75 cents each. Otherwise, there are no special requirements and all the typical rental rules apply. Whether or not it’s a great idea to rent a 750 hp car to the general public, well, that’s another story. But personally, we’re already scoping out flights.
