Hoonigan’s Drift King Brings Two LS-swapped Sleepers to Party

By -

An S13 and a Fox Body make for some world-class drifting at the ‘Burnyard.’

It’s good to be the king. But as anyone who’s followed a royal scandal or even half-watched an episode of Game of Thrones can tell you, royalty usually has the deck stacked in their favor. But, this isn’t always a bad thing. The Hoonigans recently crowned a new Burnout King, a tuner named Dustin Tobitt from Tennessee. And like any good royal, Dustin knew he was going to take this title because he brought two cars all the way to the west coast to secure it. On their own, his ’89 Nissan 240SX and Ford Fox Body Mustang convertible, both LS-swaps, would be formidable enough. But together, they’re absolutely bonkers.

The star of the show here is the Nissan. It’s a fresh build, and its centerpiece is a 6.0-liter LS with an LSA supercharger bolted to it. This S13 is a seriously clean car – the white paint shines, the red and chrome window tints are razor-sharp, and the headlights and gauge are just for show, for now at least. Dustin has only had one shakedown in the car since he finished the build. And the Hoonigan drift course, littered with trailers, wire spools, palm trees, and campers, is the perfect place to brake this 730-horsepower drift missile in.

It’s hard to see, but it looks great

And break it in, he does. Dustin handles the car flawlessly as it turns its tires to smoke. And all the while the LS screams like a banshee. You may here some tuners gripe about the ubiquity of the LS. But the results speak (or scream) for themselves.

After the Nissan is put through its paces, Dustin goes to his old standby: An LS-powered Fox Body convertible. Compared to the Nissan, this topless Ford has been through the war and has the scars to prove it. But under the beat red and blue panels, there isn’t much else. It’s a lightweight body wrapped around a Chevy V8, and it drifts like royalty.

The Mustang disappears in a massive cloud of smoke almost immediately. It’s so hard to see that Dustin ends up doing some damage to the rear bumper and left rear quarter. But it doesn’t matter; these drifts and burnouts are just incredible.

So a new Burnout King is crowned before the tire smoke can even clear. It’s nice to have Hoonigan give us a nice two-for-one video every now and again, and we’ll make sure to catch up with the new King as often as possible.
