Incredible 1976 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Has Just 17K Original Miles
Original and stunning 1976 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is guaranteed to stir up fond memories for some of us.
For most car enthusiasts, the late 1970s was a dark time filled with underpowered, heavy, and downright smogged-to-death “performance” cars. But not everything from this time period was bad, of course, as the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am rose to stardom like a phoenix rising from the ashes. Everybody who grew up in the late 1970s wanted one of these cars, screamin’ chicken and all, and those same folks are guaranteed to lust over this insanely gorgeous 1976 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am up for sale at Vanguard Motor Sales.
At first glance, one might just assume that this is a nicely restored example, much like most of what’s out there in the world today. But this Trans am is in fact completely original – it still wears its original paint and comes with a host of documentation. Everything looks brand new because, well, the car only has 16,957 miles on the odometer.
The black-and-gold beauty quite literally has it all – that perfect paint combination, those gorgeous honeycomb wheels, and GM’s 455 cubic-inch V8 – the last year it would appear in these cars. Granted, the massive mill only puts out 200 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque, but that’s par for the course with cars from this dreary era.
On the bright side, this car has a four-speed manual with a Hurst shifter, so you can take advantage of all of those 200 ponies as they flow back to a 10-bolt Posi rear end. It should drive like a dream as well, thanks to power steering and power front disc brakes.
Owning a stock Firebird of this vintage is more about style than winning drag races, of course, and this car packs plenty of that. But the interior is a nice place to be as well, with black vinyl covering the bucket seats, that classic engine-turned dash trim, and an AM/FM radio that should be playing Eastbound and Down on repeat.
There really aren’t any bones to pick with this gorgeous Pontiac Trans Am, save for its lofty $80k asking price. But we imagine that there’s at least one hungry enthusiast out there with the means that’s willing to pay for the privilege of owning this beautiful slice of Americana, at least.
