1967 Camaro Indy 500 Pace Car

Classic 1967 Chevy Camaro SS 396 Convertible wears the livery of the official Indy 500 pace car.

In 1967, Chevy paced the 51st running of the iconic Indy 500. With the recent release of the Camaro, how could they pass up such a golden opportunity for exposure? Chevrolet built four 1967 Camaro SS examples with the big block L78 engine, which, in factory form, produced 375 horsepower. Though that is nothing to sneeze at, especially in 1967, rumor has it they were “tweaked” to increase the power a bit more. After all, they have to lead a pack of race cars!

This rotisserie restored example is available for sale at Anaheim, California-based dealer Corvette Mike. There is a bit of a downside, though. In addition to the four actual pace cars, around 100 more Camaros were built wearing the same graphics for use around the track over the race weekend. This example is not one of the on-track pace cars, though it was present at the 1967 Indy 500 race.

What makes this one stand out from many 1967 Pace Cars is the manual transmission. Only 4,396 four-speed examples are out there. Additionally, this car comes with a whole host of excellent extras, revealing its past. Its original dealership paperwork, warranty card, and even its lot pass for the Indy 500 come with it. Furthermore, the glove box is signed by AJ Foyt, the winner of the 1968 Indy 500.

Even without its remarkable history, this is an exquisite Camaro example. It is an all numbers-matching original with a full rotisserie restoration. We’re talking a complete and precise nut and bolt restoration job here.

On top of that, it features a host of great options. Included is the Z22 Rally Sport Package, front disk brakes, rally wheels, bumper guards, and power steering. Furthermore, you get to hear the roar of the 325 horsepower 396 cubic-inch big-block V8.

Overall, this is an excellent opportunity to land yourself more than just a convertible 1967 Camaro. You could own a piece of Chevy history with this one. It is available with an asking price of $99,000. While that is no laughable amount of money, we genuinely believe it to be a worthy investment.
