I don’t know about you, but when I was in high school I couldn’t even dream about owning a 10 second car, let alone a 9 second one! That makes this story all that more surprising.

Alex Taylor is a 17-year-old high schooler with a need for speed. She is also the youngest racer at Drag Week — setting the record last year in her naturally aspirated 1968 Camaro SS at the age of sixteen. In Drag Week 2014 she brought back the same car, but it definitely wasn’t the same under the hood!

The ride has an all new block with twin turbos slapped on it! Alex had also installed a parachute to the back of her car, since she had exceeded 150 miles per hour in a recent run. It also has a new roll cage. Truly, this piece of vintage muscle is a true beast. But who ever doubted that?

What’s even more impressive that a high school student drag racing this car is a high school student daily driving this car!

Apparently, the classic Chevy is equipped with air conditioning, radio, and what looks to be a pretty well-kept interior that could very well be original — well, aside from the roll cage and some other very obvious gadgetry.

It’s great to see the car being used for its true purpose. The dog also seems to be enjoying the loud-n-proud ride!

At Drag Week 2014 Alex also set her all-time best record at 9.06 seconds! It won’t be long under she enters the eight second range.

Watch the video below of her at Drag Week and learn more about the car and the driver. Not to mention that you’ll get to see her race against her father in his old Ranchero!

What could possibly beat seeing a twin turbo 1968 Camaro roar down the drag strip? That’s right: Nothing at all!
