Pro Mod: 30 Minutes of Pure Sound and Drag Action

By -

Catch a half-hour of gloriously fast drag cars at the Yellowbullet Nationals. No commentary, just the roar of big-tire doorslammers.

The world of doorslammer racing includes some cool classes, but nothing really compares to Pro Mods. The bodywork always looks vaguely identifiable, but you’ll seldom find them anything but sleek and purposeful. Pro Modified race cars look the business.

More importantly, they also sound the business and go like stink. While you can always watch big doorslammer races like the Yellowbullet Nationals via livestreaming, sometimes the commentary just gets in the way of watching glorious race cars.

Pro Mod: 30 Minutes of Pure Sound and Drag Action

This video from TheRacingVids boils the entire weekend of Pro Mod racing down to its best parts. That means 30 minutes of cars racing with pure close-up video and sound. We’re sure you’re not going to sit glued to the screen for all of it. However, you could choose worse soundtracks to your day.

Part of that comes from the variety in Pro Mod. The combinations include a little bit of everything. The cars come with engines that are supercharged, procharged, turbocharged, and nitrous-fed. All of that competes on a fairly equal footing.

We’re sucker for a good nitrous car or one with a monstrous traditional blower for the simple fact that they just sound a bit meaner. That said, we don’t omit cars’ awesomeness from our biases. All Pro Mods press different buttons in our heads and they’re all good buttons.

You also get a bit of variety in the Pro Mod classes. It’s not quite like British Pro Mods where there’s all kinds of wacky stuff, but the YB Nationals drew more than the usual first-gen Camaro Pro Mods. The final comes down to a pair of Corvettes, which seem to carry as much of a sleek, drag-reducing profile that makes the Camaros so popular.

While nothing compares to seeing Pro Mods run in person, this is the next best thing you’ll come across. Throw this on and enjoy the wonderful music of our people in the background.
