ProCharged Camaro SS Makes 700 Horsepower, Slays Hellcats: Track Time Tuesday

ProCharged Camaro SS

Unbelievably-fast ProCharged 2019 Camaro SS is the opposite of a sleeper, but at least it backs it up with speed.

These days, Mopar guys have all the fun, as they can just mosey on up to their local dealership and purchase any number of brand new, 700+ horsepower vehicles, ranging from sedans to pickups. But that’s nothing GM guys can’t counter with a few simple mods, at least. This ProCharged Camaro SS is perfect proof of that, and it proved to be quite the handful when popular YouTuber That Dude in Blue – or David Patterson as he’s otherwise known – recently spent some time behind the wheel of the green machine.

As Patterson points out right off the bat, this ProCharged Camaro SS, which is fitted with a D1X huffer, cranks out 707 horsepower at the wheels – an impressive figure, indeed. At the same time, it’s no sleeper either, thanks to its highlighter hue, black graphics, and a slew of tacked-on bodywork including widebody fenders, a huge scoop on the hood, and a rear wing big enough to double as a serving tray when you’re hungry and need a sit-down meal.

Clearly, this build is for extroverts only, and that appears to be what the owner was going for, particularly since it’s insanely loud to boot. But that’s fine for a car that’s fast enough to back up its outrageous looks, and that appears to be the case here, at least, though Patterson admittedly has a hard time seeing anything thanks to the audacious bodywork. “This car is very fast,” Patterson says. “Third gear is very tall. This makes me happy. I can’t see, but I’m happy.”

Patterson also talks at length about the car’s centrifugal supercharger and how it compares to the ZL1‘s traditional unit, as well as how those two cars compare. “The centrifugal takes a second to get going,” he says. “With the ZL1, you’re just powering through the gears.” However, he does note that the Camaro’s V8 is a much better fit for a ProCharger than the Ford’s higher-revving Coyote, at least.

This wild Camaro is certainly unique and seemingly has the beans to back it up, even though it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. But we’re more interested in how it goes than how it looks, and in that regard, it lives up to the sights and sounds it provides.
