1985 Choo Choo Customs Camaro

It isn’t every day we see a Choo Choo Customs Camaro, let alone one with 79k original miles on the clock.

There many been many interesting, unique, and cool tuner-built Camaros over the years, some more appealing and attractive than others. But while some are well known to the general public, the same can’t be said of the Choo Choo Customs Camaro models built by the now-defunct company of the same name, based out of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Recently, collectors have shown a renewed interest toward these interesting custom Camaros, but there simply aren’t that many of them out there in the world. However, this 1985 Choo Choo Customs Camaro recently surfaced for sale on Craigslist, and was promptly sold, as one might expect.

Choo Choo Customs cut its teeth making special versions of the El Camino SS back in 1983-1987, and ultimately churned out a few thousand of them. However, it also made a handful of Choo Choo Customs Camaro models, though no one really knows exactly how many. The company offered a few different option packages for that particular car – the SS, SX, and Team Camaro, with this example falling in the latter category, which was the top of the line at that time.

The SS represented the entry-level Choo Choo Customs Camaro offering, one that added a rear spoiler, side-exit exhaust, and hand-painted pinstriping, while the SX upped the ante with a restyled rear panel, Sport Street Machine wheels, and some funky 1980s-style graphics. Stepping up to the Team Camaro edition netted buyers a full ground effects package, a hood scoop, hood pins, Cragar ProTech wheels, and an interior filled with fine “European wood” accents.

As for this 1985 Team Camaro model, it’s in pretty solid shape for its age, and has just 79k original miles showing on the odometer. It sat in storage for a total of 15 years before being offered for sale and has received an array of recent maintenance, with the seller replacing the fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, cables, distributor cap and rotor, and brakes, while also rebuilding the carb on its 305 V8. It may be just an appearance package with no performance upgrades, but this Choo Choo Customs Camaro is undoubtedly rare and unique, and its asking price of $13k clearly proved too enticing for someone to pass up.
