With so many cars being recalled while a new CEO is in charge; the media hammer on GM has been quite loud. However, there have been other companies that also need a look into when it comes to massive recalls on their products in 2014.

We won’t be going into food or drug recalls in this article because there are two very big ones happening right now in the automotive industry from Takata and Graco.

Many have picked on Jeep on its delay of recalling Liberty and Grand Cherokee hitches and we’ve all heard the numbers on how many GM cars have been recalled this year.

However, it pales in comparison to the 6.1 million child safety seats by Graco. At first, the recall was only for 4.2 million seats with defective belt buckles that were difficult or impossible to unlatch.

The other 1.9 million were finally added after resisting since they felt the seats in question were subjected to “substantially different use conditions.”

Graco has also stated that the seats in question were “safe to use” while the NHTSA stated “to use an alternative car seat for transporting children until their Graco car seat is fixed.”

Airbag manufacturer, Takata, has also been on the hook for recalls through automotive manufacturers of Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Toyota, BMW, Ford, and Chrysler.

The recall in the US for Takata airbag inflators is specific to high-humidity regions and totals about 766,000, but worldwide the recall is for over 10 million vehicles since 2008.

The inflator problem is connected to propellant degraded by improper storage and exposure to moisture at Takata plants in Monclova, Mexico, and Moses Lake, Wash. The problem began as early as April 13, 2000 but a solution was found as early as November 2002.
