A Mid-Engine Corvette? I Don’t Believe it.

Here’s the thing, there have been rumors of a mid-engine Corvette for about as long as the Corvette has been around. The original designer wanted one, Bob Lutz wanted one. But for some reason or another, it has never materialize. It seems though that every other year, we get a new rumor that there is going to be a new mid-engine ‘Vette, and then nothing ever happens.

That’s why when MotorTrend revealed its scoop that they had an insider at GM saying the new ZR1 would be of mid-engine design, my reaction was, sure it will. Seriously, there have been countless rumors, quotes, miss identifications, and other insiders throughout the history of GM saying that a mid-engine ‘Vette was in the works, and it never happens.

At this point, the mere mention of a mid-engine ‘Vette just results me in rolling my eyes, and saying I’ll believe it when I see it. Till GM comes out and confirms that this new car is actually in the works, this rumor requires all the salt in a Morton’s plant.

I will say this, the fact that GM registered the trademark Zora, the name of the father of the Corvette is interesting. But at this point, it could be also just be a version of the new C7 Stingray, or instead of the ZR1 nameplate, the model could be just the C7 Zora, like the C7 Stingray. Suffice it to say, we have no information at this point, but stay tuned, you never know!
