In a world-first, Speartech delivers the unbelievable: an LT5 V8 from a Corvette ZR1, plus a 10R90 10-speed automatic, swapped into a C10!

Just a couple of years ago, Chevrolet delivered a hammer of the gods to the Corvette: the LT5. The 6.2-liter V8 landed in the C7-era ZR1 as a last hurrah for the front-engine ‘Vette. Linked to either a seven-speed manual or eight-speed auto, 755 horses stampeded through the highways of the world, a rolling thunder unlike any other.

Over in Anderson, Indiana, Speartech decided a couple more gears were needed to go with the LT5. Thus, one of LS1Tech forum members bore witness to the unbelievable. Under the hood of a 1969 C10 resides an LT5 linked to the rear through a 10R90 10-speed automatic!

“World’s first LT5/10L90 swapped vehicle,” wrote minytrker back in June. “Coming straight from Speartech, the leader in standalone harnesses. Runs and drives awesome!”

According to GM Authority, the LT5/10R90 combo is one of Speartech’s crate powertrain packages, allowing builders to not need to worry about which engine works with which transmission, let alone source the parts to make it all work. This package stands out for the fact no one else has done it. You can’t get this from GM, for one. Not even through the General’s Connect and Cruise does this combo exist.

Not only did Speartech make this combo possible, they also made it work on four-wheel drive applications, per GM Authority. Thus, any truck or SUV needing an LT swap can make a call to Indiana, and in a few days, a big crate of magic will arrive off the delivery truck.

Minytrker says the combo took a lot of work to get it to work correctly. Since, again, GM never put the two pieces together, there wasn’t an ECM/TCM made for such a thing, though a few custom pieces from the factory could make it happen. Thus, as he says, Speartech spent a year on R&D to get it right; he also got to tune the combo with the C10.

How much for this combo to make your ride come alive? Just $37,500, or about the same price as a base 2021 Bolt EV. Who needs electricity from an outlet, though, when you’ve got lightning in a crate?
