Supercharged C8 Corvette Sets New Record With 9-Second Pass
The new world’s fastest supercharged C8 Corvette has officially ripped off a 9-second pass, but there’s likely even more to be unlocked.
Over the past few years, we’ve seen various modified C8 Corvettes slowly become faster and faster, despite a bit of a slow start due to its supposedly “uncrackable” ECU. With all of that sorted and ancient history at this point, there are a handful of individuals – and aftermarket companies – that continue to shave a tenth of a second here and there off their quarter-mile times, with most of their cars running twin turbo setups. However, this supercharged C8 Corvette owned by the folks at BoostDistrict just set a new record of its own.
That record, as one might imagine, is for the quickest quarter-mile pass from a supercharged C8 Corvette to date. However, as usually the case, the path to that point wasn’t one that was smoothly paved and without issues. Instead, the team at BoostDistrict has been dealing with all kinds of problems – chiefly among them, the ability to effectively get off the line without lighting up the tires or hooking a bit took hard and pulling wheelies.
To rectify those issues, BoostDistrict actually added weight to their supercharged C8 Corvette – around 120 pounds, in fact, which helped out quite a bit in terms of keeping the nose on the ground. That’s needed as this particular car is making somewhere between 800-900 horsepower thanks to the addition of a 2650 supercharger underhood, along with some other upgrades. However, it’s also running the OEM ECU that’s been tuned – interestingly, they’ve even tweaked the factory launch control to optimize it for this specific setup, too.
Otherwise, pretty much everything else here is stock, including the transmission, but that doesn’t stop it from smashing the world record for a supercharged C8 Corvette after running a 9.97 at 146.83 mph. This happened after the car launched a bit more softly off the line, thanks to the aforementioned launch control tweaks, which were needed in a car that makes nearly all of its 850 pound-feet of torque in a rather low part of the rev range.
Though the team is taking some time to celebrate their achievement, BoostDistrict isn’t done tweaking their C8 just yet. Rather, they’re quite confident that the car has a lot more in it, and with a little more tweaking, we’re guessing that they’ll most likely be breaking their own personal record in the near future.
