A “Check Engine Light” (CEL) can invoke a lot of feelings in a car owner–fear, anxiety, uncertainty, annoyance, you name it. For those who have the aptitude and patience, hooking up your car to a highly-sophisticated (and usually expensive) diagnostic tool and researching error codes is a not a problem. You can even program basic functions and reset parameters (like indexing windows, resetting oil life, etc.) with an incredibly-simple and interactive mobile app. Best of all, it has Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, so TopScan can communicate with your vehicle from up to 33 feet (10 meters) away.

Bi-directional Control

This feature grants you access to vehicle-specific subsystems and components (i.e., fuel injectors, coolant pumps, windows, windshield wipers, etc.) that drive the actuators to perform specific functions. You can analyze and locate faulty parts with precision,

In this case, I discovered that my passenger door’s lock actuator had given up the ghost when I initially thought it was a bad BCM. Had I taken this to a dealer, I’d have probably shelled out a pretty penny for diagnostics, parts and labor for a 45-min direct-replacement job.

However, bear in mind that the Camaro’s BCM coding is GM proprietary. So while you may be able to control the ECM and TCM regarding idle learn, engine speed and throttle positioning, you will not be able to control the locks, windows, latches or anything else the BCM controls right out of the box.
