WHAT’S UP IN THE FORUMS: Stock 6th Gen Camaro Runs With Modded Mustang
Mustang GT with bolt-ons struggles to put away stock 6th gen Camaro SS.
The forums here at LS1Tech are always ripe with hours of entertainment. Much of which stems from countless videos of some rather hot street racing action. And even if these videos don’t always depict an LS powered car winning the race, more often than not GM power equals victory. Considering the differences between today’s two opponents – a stock 6th gen Camaro SS and a Mustang GT with bolt-on mods – that shouldn’t be the case.
But through a variety of starts, the Chevy runs right with the Ford. With nothing more than a muffler delete. Meanwhile, the Mustang has a PMAS intake, exhaust, drag radials, 3.73:1 gears, and a Lund tune. But even with those upgrades, the Camaro’s factory edge in both horsepower and torque clearly shines here. Even with some less than stellar driving, as forum member ZYBORG points out.
“Pretty pathetic, takes all those mods to tie a crappy driver in stock car with an extra passenger.”
Regardless of the mods and the drivers, that 55 lb-ft of torque disadvantage suffered by the Mustang really shows up on film here. With a different driver capable of driving a 6-speed (or an automatic), those things might have been even more pronounced.
But instead of debating these differences, our thread quickly devolves into a fascinating debate revolving around the merits of running different grades of gas. Oh, and lots of math, dyno sheets, and even the scheduling of some future races. It’s a full eleven pages of pure entertainment, maybe even more so than the OP’s video. So by all means, take a little time out of your busy day and check it out.
