YouTuber Breaks GM’s C8 Record with 2.7-second 0-60 MPH Run

By -

Mike Davenport, aka ‘Chevy Dude,’ launches his C8 to victory with the Z51 package.

Since launch, we’ve known that the C8 Corvette was capable of getting to 60 mph from a dig in 2.8 seconds. We also knew that Chevrolet specifically mentioned that this was possible with the Z51 package. And, like all tests, this was done on a track, with controlled variables.

YouTuber Chevy Dude just proved otherwise by running a 2.7 on a private country back road in Louisville, Kentucky. The automaker is typically conservative with its stats, however this is a feat worthy of recognition. Case in point, we may never know the true performance numbers from Chevy regarding the C8 but for now we can at least consider the 0-60 technically moot.

As you may know, Chevy Dude (real name is Mike Davenport) is an eccentric car salesman who works at Bachman Chevrolet and creates content for both himself and the dealership.

C8 Goes 0-60 in 2.7 seconds!

Davenport first takes time to explain how the launch feature works on the C8 with a soft take off. “The owner’s manual says to do emergency braking, then you can hear the engine bouncing off the rev limiter,” he explained. “The wheels have to be straight. If you move any, you’ll have to start the process all over.”

Of course, the launch was anything but soft, however he’s not really complaining about it. “Wow, holy crap! That just pushed me! Did I leave rubber? I was recording one-handed,” said Davenport.

Chevy Dude then attempts to do a linear 1G launch and tries to keep the body of the car as straight as possible. He ends up getting in the high 90s, but he decides to try again by turning off traction control and putting it in “Race” mode. After doing a couple more successful launches, he then decides to do just one more pull.

It’s also worth mentioning Davenport’s Corvette is in fact optioned with Z51. And with the weather being nothing short of perfect, his final launch goes off without hitch. After getting the engine RPMs to launch range (3,500), he blasts off on the back road, chirping the tires a little but never breaking traction. Once he gets to 60, a quick glance at the PDR shows an astonishing 2.7 seconds flat.

Davenport, now completely in awe, gushes over his achievement. He stresses that he hasn’t modified anything on his car yet, and if that’s true, the C8 is truly capable of becoming a dragstrip titan with bolt-ons and tune.

For what it is worth, there also seems to be very slight incline, however 2.7 seconds on a 495-HP production Corvette is nothing at all to scoff at.
