ZR1 No-Lift Shift And Performance Traction Management: Are You A Fan?

By -

Ah, the marvels of technology! Even though there are crazy twin-clutch transmissions that bang-off gear changes in mere milliseconds, I’m still a fan of a traditional manual box. Especially one that also comes with a Performance Traction Management (AKA: Launch Control) and No-lift Shift.

Although many have argued a skilled driver can out-launch the PTD, I still admire GM for designing it. Users simply plant the pedal, throw out the clutch and the car automatically achieves a near-perfect launch. As for no-lift shift, well it’s exactly what it sounds like, you don’t have to lift off the gas to shift. Simply poke the clutch and snatch the gear with your throttle foot flat to the floor, the ECU will command a limiter for a split second as you rip off the next gear. Again, some might say they can shift faster on their own, but for most, these electronic gizmos do wonders for performance.
