Talking Running 10's... What's your story?

So I did a thread similar to this in the 11 second section last year when I was trying to go 11's in the Camaro I sold. Well it never happen and I'm pretty confident in why that is lol.

Now my new goal will be 10's in a bolt on C5Z which I'm currently in the market for. With proper planning and seat time it will be a fun and challenging goal to achieve.

So what's your story? How hard was it for you to hit 10's?

We have a bolt-on C5 coupe that has gone a best of 11.58 @ 115 with a 1.50 60' NA. LTs, Yank SS4000, tune, 3.90, drag radials ... We put a nitrous system on it last year and on 100 jets (with a NANO system) it made 502 to the wheels. Only tried to spray it once and it blew the tires off and threw the computer into a tizzy on every run. Over the winter we installed a NOS mini-controller to bring the nitrous in progressively. Although we haven't been in the 10s yet our tracks open next month and we'll be out for TNT when the air this time of year is typically WELL below sea level (DA today is about -1500'). I'm sure we have some solid mid-10s in it on spray when we get the controller adjusted to take full advantage of our little nitrous shot.

For me it was alot of Trial and Error. I started with a stock 13.4 sec 2001 trans am. I made the decision before any mods that I wanted it to run 10s but also be able to auto X the car. so I knew i needed more HP to make up for the non drag suspension. I went with a 418 ls3, and a MWC rear end, a good clutch and shifter. First tim out on drag radials I was running 12s. I was still in a learning curve because I didnt know much about the science of drag racing. I got some slicks and skinnis and managed to get the car down to 11.5 consistantly with 1.7 sixtys. I had to redo top end and due to damage and added fast 102 and different grind cam. and lighter seats. Started playing around with the launch RPMs and tire pressure and getting real seriouse with getting my 60ft up to par. after some testing I found out my car wasnt running tip top shape and replaced a bad plug wire and picked up 50whp LOL was running on 7 cyl for probably 6 months and started running 11.0 all day long. then over winter me and my tuner hit the drawing board. deleted the maf and went to a speed density tune and a 104mm FTP lid, made a few more minor adjustments and first time out I cut a 10.84 with a 6.96 1/8th. and then after just getting more skilled at driving the car i got 60 ft down to 1.50 and cut 6.84 1/8th but dont have a quarter mile time for those runs. all in all it took me about 3 years to dial car in to hit 10s with a non drag setup. I finally dicided I rather go faster strait than turn corners so I switched to viking coilivers, drag bar, alot of weight reduction and a Auto trans. If I had done all those things years go I would of seen 10s alot sooner. FWIW plenty of cars go faster than me with Less HP

No Times on new setup because im still putting it together. may even add a 150 shot to try for 9s but I should see low 10s now just on motor

That's awesome. Thanks for sharing your story. I think if you do your research before you start the build it makes the goal much easier to achieve.

My 02 Z28 went 11.5x @ 117 with a 1.7 60

This was my first time out. The car was geared 456 A4 With 26 inch tires. WAY too much gear. I was hitting it from idle spinning letting off getting back into it. Going through the traps in 4th around 6k lol

I'm now running a 342 rear and Weld RTS fat skinny setup. Got to fix me a ram air setup. Hoping to run 118-119 next time with a 1.5 or better 60 ft time.

Car feels like it runs better with the 342 rear. Seems like it uses the power band more instead or zipping right through it like it did with 456 gears

Hopefully with the changes made it will go 10.9x lol

it was pretty easy for me, goal was 11s n/a, when I made it, i hit it was a dry shot, went 11.0, then 10.9@138 next pass, backed it up again an went home.

simple recipe, C5Z, MS4 with supporting mods, E85, Fast 92, Mccloud RST, 175 shot 18" Drs

Hoping for 10s when the track opens back up. I had an 02 SS 10 years ago that had a 408 with a 200 shot but everything else was stock. Only got an 11.50 out of it spraying from 2nd gear on but trapped 130 mph before I had to sell it due to divorce.

Now I just got the build done a couple of months ago on a 2000 SS with a 408 and BW S476 at 15 psi that made 850 at the wheels. Built T56, Monster LT1-R, Moser 12 bolt and drag suspension.

Hope I can get a 10 out of that, lol.

SBE LS1 last run of the season I hit 11.44 @ 120. That was on street tires with too much gear (I was hitting 4th with 150 feet left). Since then I have changed from BBK 1 3/4 headers to SE 1 7/8th headers, installed an SLP Ram Air duct, and obtained some 28" ET Streets.

I am hoping that between the headers, added traction, and more acceptable gear ratio provided by a taller tire I will hit high 10's all motor.
