Default Stock Long Block 4.3L & 4L60E Ran a 10!

I feel like I have said this so many times, but this time I really can't believe I was able to pull this off.

The DA helped keep the IAT's down, but I've run faster with my previous converter on lower boost. So I think there is still some improvement possible.

Here are some specs of the build:
03 S10 ~3500lbs
Stock PCM (P59) 3 Bar OS Flex
Stock engine w/ felpro MLS
Reused TTY headbolts
GT3582R
4l60e w HD2 shift kit recently rebuilt by me in my garage (first time ever rebuilding)
2800-3200 ebay converter
7.5” 10 bolt w/ Eaton TruTrac
Ran peak of 23 psi on that pass.

Upper and lower tubular control arms
Caltrac and split mono leaf
Viking double adjustable front and rear
Racestar wheels
17” x 4.5” 26x6 front
15” x 10” 275/60-15 MT ET Street rear

Here are some pictures of the truck and the work I've done this year.

I ran a 11.08 and then noticed I was pushing water out the overflow. I did a leakdown and noticed that cylinder 5 had a leak. These composite head gaskets really don't like that much power.

Pistons looked perfect, so I must be doing something right with the tuning.

Felpro MLS gaskets (522SD) $21.99 each on Amazon

I noticed intermittent slip with the lockup of my converter so I bought a replacement. When I drained/pulled the transmission I saw more particles than I wanted so I disassembled the transmission and found the pump was on it's way out.

Decided the pull a junkyard transmission rather than try to piece together replacement parts.

Then I decided while it was out I would do a rebuild with fresh OEM replacement parts and add the HD2 shift kit.

Hopefully that covers everything, but if you have questions I'd be more than happy to post more information.

Thanks!
Branden

I'm not sure, but I'm going to find out.

I'm putting the 270HR cam in this winter along with a custom intake manifold that I've been working on. That should really push the power band of the engine into the rpm where I've been running it. Within less than 1 second I'm above 4,500rpm so out of the power band of the stock cam for most of the pass.

I might also get a junkyard 8.8 axle to swap into the truck with 3.55 gears to keep the rpm down out the back.

Couple pics of the current state of the custom modified Edelbrock intake manifold.

Did you follow along on a video for your transmission rebuild? Was it worth it to do it yourself? All the good transmission shops in my area are talking CRAZY money for rebuilds. Like 3-5k or more. I could buy a new trans from Jake's for half the price.

Are you foot braking the car and flashing the converter, or do you have a transbrake? I'm looking to run low to mid 10's, and I'd like to do it without a transbrake if possible.

Yeah I watched the transmission bench video series and followed along during my rebuild. I probably watched 2-3 other videos to learn as much as I could before doing it.

I think it was worth doing it, but I don't really know how long it will last as it only really has a shift kit. Everything else I used was just OEM replacement parts. I'm not sure how much it cost total, but I would guess under $1,000 for sure.

I'm foot braking it, but I do load it up on the foot brake to build boost.

I just ordered the Transmission Bench 4L80E video series. I'll decide on which parts to use after seeing how long the rebuild is going to take me haha. Whether or not it's worth buying a Jake's Stage 2 kit or just going factory stuff with a Transgo HD2 or something.
