First time out with the new setup. 11.423 @119
After many months of transforming a bone stock '98 Trans Am into something I can go have fun in, I finally made it out to a Test and Tune. I only got to make 2 passes yesterday, but the first pass off the trailer she went 11.55. I got there late, so the lanes were going to be closing soon. I ended up hot-lapping it and went straight back to the staging lanes. Second pass was a 11.423 at 119mph. Track was Virginia Motorsports Park for their last test and tune of the season.
DA: -692ft
Here's the setup:
'98 Trans Am
Junkyard LQ4
PRC 225 heads
231/242 110lsa cam
Edelbrock Proflo xt with Fast 90mm tb
FTI th400 with an SR series 3800 stall
Strange S60 with 3.73's and a spool
Viking coilovers up front, double adjustable shocks out back
Minor weight reduction (A/C, abs delete, rear seats, etc)

No dyno numbers so far. Also need to get the car weighed. Car is street tuned with speed density by me, so there's still a lot left in this setup. I just need to finish the nitrous wiring. The cam and torque converter are spec'd for spray.

Bump...not that it means much to have the "11 second club" title, but can we get an update? I need something to cheer me up waiting for the tracks to open back up. Shooting for 10's.

Well, I'll be pulling the motor to find out either way. I thought it was valve guides, but my bottom end just started knocking yesterday. Won't know for sure why until I pull it apart. Knock developed with 70psi oil pressure and it was idling. I'm changing the entire setup soon anyway.

Hahaha...nah. I'm going back to the basics for my goal. The LQ4 was chosen to hit with a big shot on a Super Vic/4150/stinger plate setup, but I wanted something more streetable. Once I swapped to the proflo...my nitrous setup got curbed and I only need a 150 shot to hit bottom 10's/sky high 9's.
I'm picking up an 86k mile LS1, sticking a polluter cam in it, and a ported fast. Just ditching the LQ4 and my intake setup I'm losing 100lbs. On spray I can make similar power with less weight. Not to mention, selling my heads, intake, injectors, and bad shortbblock will pay for everything. I might even have cash on top.
She'll be back when the tracks open up. I knew she needed a diet...but this isn't how I expected that to go. lol

Great looking car! I have a similar set up in a third gen ta with a fast 90 intake and a little more cam. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Im shooting for 10.90s on motor and 10.0s on spray once i get it all sorted out. What exhaust set up did you have? Do you think you had a high 10 in it?

I'm using Texas speed 1 7/8 headers, their Y pipe mated to an SLP dual dual. As far as 10's, I think so. I short shifted at 6200 and the tune had a lot more left. I'm a rookie driver and this was the car's first time on track on an untested suspension setup. So many factors to get figured out, but I think high 10's were definitely possible with more time.
