Thanks for that, I was going to install the 8714 cam this week while on holidays but decided against it till I can afford to upgrade the internal engine components. The reason is that with my 99 ls1 rod bolts opinions seem to differ to a wide degree on how much rpm they will handle, and I was wanting to rev to 6500 or I doubt the change is worth it. I thought 6500 was safe but now not so sure.

Oh c'mon just put it in there and set your rev limit at 6800 and shift it at 66-6500. I think if it has lived this long and still has decent oil pressure it will be fine getting spun up every once in a while.

Here we go I finally have real track Data! That's me in the right lane on both all three of those runs. So... I wanted to race last week when the da was in the negative like last year, around -300ft so for a more accurate comparison of my best time ever with the BTR stage III truck cam (11.87@115.3mph) I included a higher da run with the BTR stage III truck cam, (around 2000ft IIRC please check the date and correct me if I'm wrong) but they closed the track because it got too cold last Wednesday. Still, I got to go this past Wednesday instead October 23rd with 65 degree air but the Da was much higher, between 800-1300ft I think according to gateways weather forecast online but the car still got a new best time and mph!

compare the first timeslip of this post (a typical run with the BTR stage III truck cam with the only change being the new summit racing 8714 camshaft) to the other two, note of course all my runs are in the right lane, also if you look at the ones at the top of the thread you'll see that there was still a solid improvement in the cars performance and my reaction time lol. Before I needed really good sea level air to touch 11's and in similar conditions with the old cam (+1000 da) the car would have been running between 12.0-12.2 @ 112-113mph, as I have plenty of old time slips to demonstrate this so I am very pleased with the results of my cam swap, the summit 8714 is doing work in my LS1 Z28 with only ls6 springs and a great tuneup however now I wonder if summit would send me something even more strip oriented lol as it's so tame I've been driving it everywhere! then I can put the 8714 in my wife's 6.0 camaro street build lol (thread is in internal engine section)

Not really big HP. Just an aluminum block LS motor with an Elgin E1839P cam. Engines live on oil and I'm wanting about 10 psi more like the red spring that comes in a 10295 pump. I'm just going to use a stock pump and add 7.5 lbs spring. The stock spring is 5 lbs or so.

Man I hope you don't read my budget 6.2L build thread lol I don't deserve one of your fine transmissions the way I jam stuff together 😂, I had the block bored 0.065" over and then I reused the old 6.0 main bearings and cam bearings with 282,292 miles on them with the crank from a different 5.3L engine from my suburban with 294,000 miles, used floating pin rods, and used rod bearings from another 4.8L engine that I had lying around with probably 200k miles on it. I'm using Oriley's 20w50 in it with a m295 and it gets 35psi at idle and over 70psi reving up. I've put almost 3000 miles on it already and the only issue I've had is with traction! It might be stronger than my Ls1 in this thread, I need to update my other thread about the car it's swapped into.

Driver side header has gotten pretty rusty and leaky at the collector, these coated pacesetters have been on this car since 2006!

Nice hole in it and it's all bashed up

Theses things have seen some ****

"Ta Da" it's all better now. I fixed it with my stick welder!

Plugged for good, no more fumes I hope!

New collector extension slathered on there and she's ready to go run a new best e.t.!

don't look in there, I saw that Hotrod header "test" lol

Well I guess if the dragstrip opens this year we'll see if she's any quicker with duals!

I really appreciate you getting a clip. That sounds really good. Do you think this cam will be fine on stock lifters, pushrods, and converter? I'll swap the springs to ls6

I really want a more than mild cam but can't really go all out on the valvetrain and pulling the heads plus a stall, not in the budget right now.

I found the converter that I put in this car on Craigslist for $150 bucks. It's a Tci SSF 3600 and it was still new in the box but it sat on someones shelf for a few years. Keep looking and saving and you will find a good deal

Interesting in knowing the difference between the two builds and gas mileage difference.
