Anyone running 11’s on 245/50/16 Nitto’s Drag Radials?
I installed my SS3200 converter a few weeks ago finally got it broken in. It’s been fairly cool out here in CA but my Nitto’s do not seem to be hooking up very well N/A. I am afraid traction might be an issue now especially while spraying. Just wondering if anyone running around 400 rwhp has been successfully running constant 11’s with Nitto’s. Any launching suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Rick

no experience with 11's, but much experience with nitto's.
solution a-
burn them for a FULL 8 seconds, getting the tires spinning like 70-80mph at least (i'll see the speedo get well above 80mph on my burnouts) then try not to let them cool too much before you launch (don't drag your feet and make sure the other guy doesn't either if that is possible). also you probably won't be able to flash the converter on them too hard, so it takes a little self control. actually in 50*+ weather i could launch hard on them but the burnout i had to do was annoying, so i burned them less and launched less hard (= shittier et's).
or solution b- which i chose
get some better tires.

Keep the air pressure down around 25 psi and do a 2nd gear burn out for all of about 4-5 seconds around 80-85 mph, lots of smoke.
hold brake stall to about 3000(I have a Yank PT4000),let off brake and roll into the throttle in a quick/smooth motion.
My 275/40/17's and 315/35/17 Nittos both hook the same, full weight car,Chrome ZR1's,lowering springs and all stock suspension other than BMR relocation brackets and SFC's.
Car weights 3650 with me in it and i pull consistent low 1.6's .ALL MOTOR
This same launch got me a 11.95@115 on a 100 shot with stock Goodyear Eagle F1's and a VIG3600 vertor.
I think you can find the traction you want with those tires if you experiment with pressure and burn out length,IMHO.
I did have the SS4000 vertor and same results as the PT4000 with a easy launch and Nitto's 1.6's
Good luck

I have been to the track once and the car ran a best of 11.35 @129.8 with a 1.85 60' on the 295/35/18 Kumhos. I was hoping to run that time on slicks and I did it in everyday street trim, I was thrilled to say the least.

I have run 11.15 with a 1.57 60 ft with my stock wheels and 245/50/16 nitto drag radials. I also have a PT4000
run 18psi and do along *** burnout. I usually wait till i see smoke then count to atleast 10. You cannot get these tires too hot so dont worry about doing too long of a burnout . So far my best 60 ft on them is 1.56 but that was with eibach pro kit and billstiens. I just put in hals but I havent tried them yet. I will assume you have your front swaybar out but if ya dont pul it. IT makes a big difference. I usually come out around half throttle for the first foot to make sure I hook then just drill it.
Good luck

Roast the hell out of them. A 10 second burnout will do just fine. On my Yank SS3600, I would stage the car at 1200-1500 rpm and smash the gas. On 275/40/17's, I ran a best of 11.52 @ 119 w/ a 1.61 60ft'. This is in a full weight (3600lb), t-top car.

I used to run 245/50/16 Nittos in my TTA. I would do about 4-5 second burnout. Roll to the line. Bring it up to 28-3000, what ever the rear brakes could hold. And launch. Low 1.6x most of the time with a best of 1.61.
That was with a stock TA but with tubular panhard rod and LCA's.

I'm getting 1.7 60' times on 16" Nittos with stock suspension, running in the 11's on the bottle.
I've found that my torque convertor doesn't like to be stalled up, it likes to be flashed on the launch.

better than high 1.8 sixties there with Nitto's. Track prep sucks, plus you add
to the fact of you have to drive thru the water box before staging, imports
dragging all that water up to line, etc. etc.
At the private track rental there (95% import free) I was able to launch consistantly (all 1.8's) and managed 3 hi 11 sec passes, couple were 12.0's. Nitto's are dependant on track prep and it's not happening at that place.

I've found that Nittos like lots of heat in them and around 17-18psi cold. With my GN powered RX-7 I could cut consistent 1.71-1.73 60' times.
Definately make the smoke pour out the wheelwells and then begin staging. I got nearly 10K miles out of my set with lots of passes and plenty of street burnouts.

Are you looking for a tire that will run 11s anywhere? Anywhere being the track or an asphalt road. Any of the drag radials will hook at the track with proper heating and pressure, but on the street is a different story. The Mickey ET Street Radial is the best way to go for asphalt paved road traction. The BFGs hook decent but a lot of mid 120s and up cars "wobble". Wobbling isn't fun, there's no wobbling with the Mickeys. I can launch my car on virtually any road any surface once I heat up the tires real good. The same can't be said for the Nittos.
EDIT: I run 16psi in my ET Street Radials. That's a 250/50R16.

Although several people have told me they were able to run 11’s with the Nitto’s there was no consciences about being consistent with them. So after reading your comments here and in the tire forum I called the tech guys at Mickey Thompson they reassured me their tire would get me the consistent runs I was looking for. So I ordered the M/T ET drag radials 255/50R16. I had them installed yesterday and I feel the difference on the street so I am sure they are going to be my answer at the track. I am looking forward to some good runs this weekend weather permitting. Thanks again for all your help, Rick

The thread was Anyone running 11’s on 245/50/16 Nitto’s Drag Radials?
Answer is alot of people. The nittos are a great all around tire which is good rain or shine. Can ya hook better with a MT ? yes you can. but would I want them on my daily driver that will be driving in a downpour? no

You make a very good point. My car is not a DD; I should have mentioned that, the only real street time it gets is to and from the track and gas station. The only time it sees water is wash day or the burn out box. I assumed by asking that question in this forum we where talking track use only I should have made that clear. My Nitto’s have been very good to this point. But I have spent a lot of time and money to get my car running very consistent and a few hundred more for better tires to keep that consistency is well worth the money. I was not trying to knock the Nitto’s and although many people running 400 + rwhp have stated they can run 11’s on Nitto’s, their next comment is; its very tricky and if they were going to run a track tire only the M/T ET is what they would recommend. Sorry for the confusion and thanks again for everyone impute. Rick

Rick, good luck at the track. You'll LOVE the ET Street Radials. Make sure you get them really hot. The more heat, the harder they hook!

They're not as scary in the rain as some people think.

I ran several low 11s passes on my 245/50x16 555R's, and traction seemed good. Best was 11.177 @ 130 with a 1.93s 60ft.
3500lbs, M6.
Launching at around 3600rpm. I do need more practise, but it was my first time at a proper track with the tyres.
I only did smallish burnouts, didnt try and cook the tyres. I ran them at 16psi.
I'd guess there is more to come from them, judging by others experience with them.
