The longer cranks where used in 99 and 00. The 04 6.0 crank is physically the same as the LS1 crank, except that the LS1 was drilled through the rod journals for lightening. What I'm not sure about is whether or not the crank is balanced properly for a 5.7. Hopefully someone else can chime in and answer that for you.

99- 00 6.0L had the longer rear hub. it measure 1.250 the one from an 04 is .857 the 5.3, LS1 5.7L, and the 01- up 6.0L would all have the .857 wide rear hub. The 5.3L and the 6.0L is physically the same crank as the LS1 5.7L only the 5.7L was gundrilled with a 1 inch hole through the center mains... Same casting number on all the cranks. All of these cranks are neutral ballanced how ever the rocepricating wieghts for each engine are different. So if your mixing cranks you should have it Balanced to your parts...
To answer your question. Yes, your 04 6.0L short block will bolt in place of your LS1. How ever you will notice that on the front of the 6.0L block there is one hole that is not drilled for your Alt. bracket.

Well that sux... I guess you have to do what you have to do though. I can't believe how hard it is to get a reasonable priced used LS1. IMO there over rated for what they are esspecially in used form. A 6.0L is much eaiser to make better power with out having to spend a ton of cash modding the block.
