2.73s KILL 1/4 times. I'd bet going from 2.73s to 3.73s will net around half a second.
One thing to check on. Some 98s have a false knock issue that causes them to pull up to 4* of timing at WOT. Mine did. It's an easy fix when you throw on your intake though. Just need to get two new 99+ sensors and the harness. I'd check to see if it's pulling timing.

Comparing cars is for tools! I agree the gears alone will give me near half a second. I am doing the cam and intake this weekend along with an electric cutout. Then I am going straight to kc for a tune, then within that next week pull the trans..build it up, (monster bell housing, 9 clutch power pack, bands,) vett servo and shiftkit transgo 2 are already installed.
While the trans is out....in come the 3.73's!!!! IF all goes well I may skip the 12 club

Shorty headers really don't help over stock manifolds. Your trap does cause some alarm. I would do a compression test to see how healthy that engine is before you go and throw a head/cam package in it. That would suck to have a piston disintegrate and kill your brand new heads and cam.
