Default Should I really be in the 12s?

My 2000 Z28 A4 with 2.73s dynoed 339/345 and quite a few car guys I know are saying that should put me just into the 12s. I questioned "even with the 2.73s?" and they told me, "Yeah, your car runs strong!"

Am I questioning myself too much or would it indeed be possible to hit 12s with my current mods? I have a lid, LTs, ORY, and a Magnaflow catback, plus the FRA mod. It would be nice to already be the in the 12s before the stall goes in it.

Damn dude take your car to the track, manuallt shift it along, start in low and go from there. Anyone who has tried leaving the car in drive verse manually shifting the car would know with out a doubt that your will get better times.

And just how might you shift faster or more precise than the computer?

Ever tried shifting an auto on your own? Even when you shift it, it doesn't respond right away, making it very hard to time the perfect shift without going too high or shifting too low.

You won't get a better time by manually shifting, you will only go slower unless you shift it perfect and then it would net you the same time as if you let the computer do it, lol. I don't know why people think they can shift faster than the computer. Anyway, your car should be in the 12s easy as long as you can get traction.

manually shifting an a4 ls1 is ******* RETARTED!!! don't do it. end of conversation.

you need a converter and tires- took .7 off of my last car (2.73's) and my new car i just put that converter in (3800 stall 2.5str)- well it is a night and day difference honestly. seems like an animal now, wheras with the 2.73's and stock verter it seemed like a little bitch of a car till you get into the powerband. without it you may or may not be in the 12's, probably high 12's but with the converter and a good launch- prepare to surprise yourself with the 2.73's!

Well I was going to take it tonight but it's ridiculously hot here in this area of Missouri. It hit 100 degrees today with a heat index of 115 and tonight it's still around 85-90. No way I'd get any good times tonight. Either way, the stall gets ordered Monday.

I had a 2002 Z28 A4 (2.73), I went 13.06 and 13.08 with only an SLP Lid and SLP Loudmouth. Only had 3,000 or 4,000 miles on the car. Best trap was 108.51 mph. 60 foots were all 2.0's

I use to manually shift because I did in fact get me better times. And I would manually shift because you can stay in a lower gear longer.

I don't think there has ever been a time I would want to manual shift to stay in gear longer except maybe around town. Once you floor it, the rpms climb to just before the rev limiter and it shifts. Any more time and your bouncing off the limiter. If you shift it yourself you have to pray the tach is perfect and shift just before it hits the rev limiter, which the car does all by itself if you leave it in D.

You need a good tune, you should never be able to get better times doing it yourself.

With those kind of power numbers you should be into the 12s. 339/345 is STRONG man, especially for the mods you have. My car was over 50 rwhp shy of that and I ran a 13.2 @ 105 in good weather. Normally ran mid 13s in average to bad weather. No reason you couldn't get a 12 now, even in this hot weather. Solid 12s once the cold weather comes. With sticky tires and that converter you'll be gunning for some low low 12s in the right weather IMO.

NO! BAD DOG! NO!

Research and read. You'll see how wrong you are. Dont tell other people to tear their stuff up though. If you want to shift get a six speed. Otherwise let the auto do it's job.
