have we figured out the da where this dude is racing? his raceweight? 2 huge factors in how fast a car will go.

you guys are very quick to hate without having all of the information.

All the years (98-02) have some fbodies with 2.73's. But first they had to be automatics since all M6's came with 3.42's. Second they had to be Trans Am's, Formula's or Z28's since all A4 SS's, WS6's and Firehawks came with 3.23's. Third they had to have been ordered from the factory without the gear performance upgrade.

I don't know the exact numbers of how many left the factory with the 3.23 performance upgrade, but it seems to me that if you buy an A4 Formula, TA or Z28 you got about a 50/50 shot of having 2.73's.

The RPO codes on the door tell you for sure. GU2=2.73 and GU5=3.23.

Hey guys my car with mods in sig ran 13.2@106 in 90+ degree weather @ Atlanta dragway with the mods listed. If corrected that is 12.7-8. My brother's 99 T/A with lts, lid, cam, tuning, and 369whp ran 13.1@108 the same day.

It's really not unbelievable.

Here is something else to think about. What if you were to remove the LT's and replace them with shorties, put back the stock Y pipe with cats, replace the true duals with a flowmaster and replace the Nittos with KDWS all weather tires. Now go back to the track and find a way to run 2 tenths quicker, retain your trap speed (even though you lost at least 20 rwhp with the exhaust swap) and get .1 off your 60' (even though you went from drag radials to all weather street tires).

Sound like something that's possible to you? Sounds like mission impossible to me.

3.23 geared cars will always be quicker down the track then a 2.73 geared car with all else being equal. There is a reason why people always go numerically higher with gears when they mod. On average a 3.23 geared car will be a couple tenths quicker in the quarter mile then one with 2.73's. Add a stall and sticky tires and that gap may increase due to the severe launching handicap 2.73's impose.

But 2.73's are better for highway races and get better gas mileage.
I see your point! You have posted quite a few good points to look at and factor in! I know it seems a little far fetched after breaking it all down, But who am I to tell someone he didn't run a 12.7 if thats what he ran.
Whether it be due to track equipment failure, or actually running a 12.7, I still say good job to the OP if he's not BS-ing us.

According to the OP it was a 70-75 degree day and VA motorsportspark. Given average humidity and baro and NHRA say that the track is 186' above sea level, that puts the averge DA around 1300'. With a range of 1000'-1600' depending on conditions. Which is good for this time of year.

Comparing my times and mods and DA, I believe it to be possible to run 12.7 with what the OP has in 1300' DA with minor weight reduction and a slight touch of factory freakishness.

That is the real question is whether he is BSing us or not. I still have a very hard time accepting that after a long time of no time slip he finally produces a mangled and hard to read slip which didn't match the track he originally claimed to make this pass at. I have a hard time accepting that he conviently "forgot" what track he was at when he ran the best time ever in his car. But that's just me.

I've made every valid point there is to make. Some people still want to believe this (or at least not voice thier own doubts) and others clearly do not believe it. At this point it's become a personal choice.

Personally I think it's time for this thread to die. But again, that's just me.

This thread = Total waste of time. I only posted this bc I am tired of the same posts being quoted and repeated. Who cares if he said it ran a 12 flat. I don't!!! come on already if he is telling the truth cool in not who cares. The only reason no one believes him is it is not what you would normaly expect. Hell my car has LTs high flow cats, ypipe, LM1, LID, K&N, CAI full weight car with spare tire, jack and all and a 270 lb driver and I ran a 13.49 at 104 with a 2.09 60' on Cheap hankook 275/40/17 (they hook very good) . It was around 90 with around 72% humidity. Was I happy? No! But I won't knock everyone else that is faster.

There is no way your car would run 13.4s. What was your DA and race weight. You probably have a cam that you don't know about or the clocks were wrong.

no, he needs to remove his LM1 and LT's and replace them with shorties and a flowmaster. That will drop .7 off his ET

I plan on putting 98 stock manifold on it as soon as I can find a set. and I need to tune the torque management to pull a little more out on the shifts, and lower the line pressure in the tranny. 15s here i come!!!

What are you guys arguing about!!!

Look at some of the other cars have run. In the "old" days of this site, I've seen 11 second stock engine set-ups. Every car will run different. Every track's prep is different. With temp difference, come DA difference. Anyone that has run in 100 degree temp knows how crappy it can be. Do the same run at 70 degrees. Big different. Run at Denver (5000+ DA all the time); same run in HRP (0' - in the winter is goes to a negative DA).

You guys need to go out and race, vice this BS bench racing. IF someone wants to try to BS their way into a 12 second run, more power to them. They are only lying to them selves. Don't lower yourself to their level.

David
