What Happened to Small Cams? Part 2
What ever happened to the days of conservative cam choices like the TR224 or 228r. I was reading in previous threads about a similar topic. Is it that people are just uneducated or is this what some of these shops are putting out there to make more money on supporting mods? All you see these days are questions about how can I get 600 hp n/a and run 12's. Or polls with 3 choices T-rex, Polluter, or Vindicator. (No disrespect to those cams or companies).

Hell if you look at this page and the previous ones, I'm sure you will find 3-4 each on "How big can I go" or "Whats the biggest cam for my setup". I gotta buddy right now that ran a MS4 and switched to a 226 and runs just as quick as he did with the MS4. Granted it comes to how your setup is rigged.

ya seems like everyone is just trying to get huge cams on stock heads and make 500whp lol
I went with a small cam on my ls6 220-224 112, going to dyno tune this week so we'll see if baby cams could still compete.
I would love to have a 239-240 cam but my car is my daily driver, and i need it to be reliable.

Honestly who gives a ****? I mean if someone is asking for some advice then by all means steer them in the right direction. People should use the search function more often no doubt. But most of all people need to do a lot more research because they just buy the biggest cam they can stick in there.

Big cams aren't the problem, it's people wanting cam only and getting big cams. Donkey dick cams don't really make any more power than a mild cam if you're still running stock heads and intake manifold.

Big numbers are just that, they do not always equal big ET's.
If you try and play the big numbers game your likely to have a car that's only fun when your foot is planted. So ask yourself when and where am I going to be able to utilize that on the street ?

i think alot of people would be so much better off doing the research themselves altho its always good to have a second opinion or someone else to help guide.

I think its b/c of what damian said and b/c smaller cams arent "cool" on the INTEERWEB.
Not many people know much about making COMBINATIONS work, just throw a big cam at it and go from there, lol.

Big cams might make big power, but dont let that be your selling point. I ran with a 520ish lift cam and set of dart heads and he was right next to my trex cammed WS6 until 4th gear. Granted it was my first race with my car and the new set up and I was shifting at the stock red line like an idiot lol. I think if I would of shifted right it would of been a different story
I do LOVE the way the big cam sounds though, and honestly I dont see or feel ANYTHING that whats always mentioned on tech about driveability. The car is actually very very nice, it doesnt buck or stall or anything really. The only time it does buck is if you are coasting below 1500 rpm and its not to bad. With the 4.10's its actually hard to stay below 1500 rpm anyways.
When Im cruising around town there is way more torque in the lower band then the stock cam as well. I also think the potential of a big cam offers alot more then the smaller ones, I could probably put down 450rwhp if I put a set of heads in.
