Pics of the short belt mod. !PS& !AC
I want to do the short belt mod hopefully to lower my E.T. Just curious if anyone has pic of the short belt mod bypassing the PS. I've already searched, but didn't see any pics. Anymore free or cheap mods I can do to help my E.T. So far I've done the !swaybar, ported TB, FRA. Thanks.

no pics becasuer i thik you would have to have the radiator out of the car to get a pic of it, but i can try and discribe it.
starting on top of tensioner, going to the right when looking at it, and standing infront the car. the flat part (back side) of the belt will go on the bottom of the water pump, to the groved side going around the top of altenator, coming off the bottom of the altenator, going on the bottom of the crank pull and back up to the tensioner. hope that helps, you can look at the picture on the driver fender and see how to do it. but somepeople have to remove one of the 3 botls on the altenator, becasue it will rub a very small amount. I do not have to remove it for some reason it does not hit.,

The belt part number is around here somewhere, I know I posted it a long time ago but don't remember it off the top of my head.
That pic above shows it without any power steering so that routing probably is not what you want. I can't give absolute track times, but it helped me a bit, about a tenth in the 1/4...
I now have no PS on mine and with an EWP i just have one real short belt from the crank pulley to the alternator, I can take a pic of that if you like...

I'm setting mine up without power steering and with the stock pulley 52 1/2" puts the belt tensioner at the lower ( less tension ) mark. I picked the belt up at advance auto PN# 5060525. They also carry a 52" but the store did not stock it.
One question I have is where should the tensioner pointer be for optimum tension? On my other car the tensioner is at the mid point of the two hash marks with a short belt and Asp pulley. I'm thinking the 52" belt will move the pointer to far, or just past what I believe to be the upper limit of where the tensioner should indicate.
For some reason I can't imbead the pics, does anyone know the code to do it manually?
The tensioner pics can be deceaving, due to camera angle, the crappy looking one is at the far left mark the gold one is right in the middle of the two marks.

I also would like to know what size to get,what brand and where to get it. A few years back i took the whole power steering system and knocked off two tenths. Also I saw an article that talks about free mods to old school chevy engines and some guy knocked of .4 tenths of the 1/4 mile. I wonder If ls1 response the same way to this mod

Couple things you need to watch out for when doing the short belt mod. If you are an auto the clip holding the trans lines needs to be removed. You may also have to remove one of your alternator bolts if the belt makes contact there. I don't remember if it will hit with the stock pulley. I know mine rubbed with the ASP pulley
A while ago I made a bunch of back to back passes with and without shortbelt. The shortbelt gave me .07 in the 1/4. Might not be a huge amount but every little bit helps.
