moving engine back
How much could i gain from moving the engine in my 04 GTO further back in the car? I'm talking about moving back around a foot or so, not mid engined.....I'm 5'6" and have MORE than enough room in the drivers seat with the cage, so that is not a problem to think about or deal with.
Main question, without room constraint, since the GTO is inherently nose heavy would there be a noticeable gain in handling and dead hook off the line grip by moving the engine so in would sit more like the engine in the f-bodies (partially under the cowl).

You'd have to redesign just about everything. This wouldnt be a street car venture

This is more of a "what if", than a hey I'm thinking about it.....I've built full tube chassis cars front and mid engined, but do not plan on doing this to this car, just wondering the effects
In general moving the engine rearward and lower to the ground moves the CG to a more favorable location for hard launches. Cornering ability is dependent on how the suspension is setup. Run a simulation program like susprog3d
I personally would loke at moving heavey items to the rear of the car / lighting the front end before looking into ways to move the engine further back. Not sure what the front end hardware is like on the GTo but there should be some saving in bolt on parts. If you are happy to do a little cutting and welding there could be big savings without having to move the engine at all!

Well see this is why I asked this question about the GTO in particular. The car is naturally nose heavy and looking at it compared to say the F-body the largest difference is engine placement.....the F-body's engine being roughly a foot further back in the chassis compared the the GTO, and what advantages this has.
