That video is basically saying it's pointless. Unless you had some very specific needs that required it...which would be rare.

Yeah there are only a couple niche circumstances.

I like the idea of a LS1/6 destroked to 312ci... especially if you're using any of the heads designed specifically for the 4.8/5.3 bore. The larger bore unshrouds the valve/increases the coefficient of discharge.

I think it's plenty applicable for anything that you can use the 5.3 for if cammed and tuned correctly.

It may not be the best or most reasonable or popular choice, but if someone was to say that they wanted to overbore their 4.8 to the 3.898 bore, it would be high praise and encouragement...

Everyone seems so ridiculously dickhigh for displacement, they fail to recognize a well balanced combination that matches the desired build.

There was never a question asked how to detune a 5.3/5.7, but everyone was quick to add irrelevant information about how to detune larger displacement... almost as if the original topic was completely ignored.

Given the overall lack of real data on this combination, everyone in the community should be supportive, in the name of science... not pressuring people into the same boring BS that has polluted these boards into repetitive stagnation.

A maximum effort N/A 312ci build will never break the factory LS1/6 sleeves, so you can go all out with no worries, and probably match most of your basic LS1 H/C/I combinations in overall enjoyment...

Your maximum effort N/A 312 is going to be less than a maximum effort 346, and you already know that. But it's possible to build a 312 that matches a stock LS6, and if that's what you are looking for, then please do it.

I think the stock LS6 makes an embarrassment of the LS3 in terms of what it delivers (I don't believe that the LS3's factory output explains the 0.5L increase in displacement nor the 50cc jump in intake runner volume), so building a 312ci that performs at the stock LS6 level is respectable (and doable).

It doesn't even have to be a max effort build if it matches their criteria. People are allowed to, and should be encouraged to, think and build outside of your box...

.
Comparing 2 engines a decade apart, with different emissions rules etc etc...is pointless. The LS3 makes more power, makes more torque, and no doubt runs cleaner as stock. That's a win in every department.

While this thread might not be advanced, there are many in this forum that are, so I would not say this forum is messed up at all. Don't like a thread, move on.

@DavidBoren That's the exact thinking behind the build, and it is only for the joy of hitting 7000-8000 RPM mark on this kind of V8's, it aint for a drag car neither a drift build, its for the R O A D, I daily a 1.4T VW group SUV with 150hp/180Tq and its perfect for the road... no real need for a 7.Stupid C.I. Engine...I just want a little weird missmatched japanese/american HotRod, im just racing now and then just for looks & experience, nothing proffesional so... for the sake of the build why dont do it? im just asking for dimensions to see id "this" part fitīs on "this hole" that's it, not askinf if it make's sense or if you folks like it...

AAAANY HOW... if somebody wants to help this build contact me if you got a LS1 in "OK" condition... i might be really interested, also a CD009... im into that transmission too.
Peace!

8,000 rpms is doable with a stock LS1 3.62 stroke crank One would probably want to get a stick crank checked to insure its in excellent condition before doing that etc

There isn't a good reason to destroke unless its for class racing and displacement is limited by the rulebook.

The challenge is getting the valve train set up for the high rpm. Titanium valves, aftermarket lifters, quality springs, correct cam lobe profile etc.

Ideally one would want a block with good bay to bay breathing like the LS6 block has. Many of the other blocks like the 5.3 etc can be modd'd for good bay to bay breathing too.
