What is the formula for calculating compression height when ordering custom pistons?

deck height - rod length - 1/2 stroke= zero deck compression height

However: this assumes that you understand how to set quench from gasket thickness and dome relief (if any) in the head.
A gasket thicker than your desired quench distance (i.e., .035" etc.) will want a dome slightly above deck surface, also the reverse.
