Another comairison report, I like this one since it seems to be more indepth with the testing procedures.

Hmmm, that is very interesting. According to them Amsoil is the way to go. IDK, i think i will stick with Mobil.

AMSOIL comes out on top again . And all of the companies that send a 0w30/40 wt oil instead of the requested 20w50 look seem like pansies to me.

these oil tests never include CenPeCo or Lubrication Engineers

a buddy of mine did his own oil test on a dyno
he said all of the "walmart" oils lost power as the oil temps went up
LE does not. its not synthetic so they can use a different additive package

I'm using the LE 1540 with good results so far

Does anyone know if there is a list of oils that have Zinc in them?
Zinc is very important when breaking in a flat tappet cam, and many of the oil companies are fazing it out of their oils.
There are oil additives like GM's EOS to put the zinc back in, but I'd like to know if there's a list of oils that stil have the zinc in it.

rotella is exempt from the zinc removal since its diesel oil

I suspect any C (commercial) rated oil is safe to use

pfft, once again, amsoil wins against relatively unpopular oil. the mobil 1 0W-40 is a good oil, i'd run that in my engine over ripoff amsoil. notice how you never see an amsoil comparison done against german made castrol 0W-30. they'd lose i bet

i am impressed that mobil 1 0W-40 freed up 14hp more than shell. that's impressive. almost makes me wanna try it.

I find the results interesting.....

Mostly, because I can't figure out how they think the Amsoil was the best stuff. From their dyno results, Royal Purple and Mobil 1 (and a couple others) made better power and torque than the Amsoil stuff. Peak power for RP was 266.6, Mobil 1 0W-40 made 270.5, whereas Amsoil made 261.7. Seems like to me that running Mobil 1 would be the cheap way to pick up 9 hp. Whole lot less money that most people pay for a FIPK.....

the argument is protection at the expese of horsepower. amsoil drains 9hp but it protects better than the mobil 1 (so they say). personally, i'm with you. i know according to patman that mobil 1 0W-40 is great stuff (unlike 5W-30 for LS1's ), so if i can pick up 9hp in the process, awesome!
