Default Engine Calculator App for Evaluation

Hi folks,

I'm developing an automotive calculator app for Windows called RaceCalc and I thought I'd post it here for evaluation.

It currently calculates displacement, static and dynamic compression, and cam timing events. It also saves engine and cam profiles so you can easily recall them later.

I'm hoping to add more functionality to it and would welcome your suggestions and comments.

You can download it from my web site here:

http://www.chavismotorsports.com/downloads/racecalc.zip

Thanks,

Alan

Cool app, but it didn't work for me. When I entered my application, the camshaft numbers were WAY off from my cam pro sheet. In turn it threw off my DCR, but the SCR looked to be right on.

its close enough for me. with the SCR/DCR i've been using i get 12.03/8.63, with this calculator i get 12.04/8.64.

and how's it going alan

Hey guys,

Thanks for checking out my app!

Obviously it is a work in progress.

If you find some issues with the math, please send me your input values and what your expected output values are and I'll try to resolve any issues you find.

Thanks!

Alan

Looks pretty good. I also had erroneous DCR and SCR values (on the low side).

Did you use Visual C++ to write this?

Looks like your piston volume value isn't affecting the end compression ratio.
I used wildly different values and the same compression calculation came up.

Yes, it's Visual C++.

Anyone else seeing this problem?

Nice work. Clear and simple. You could work on creating an ancillary cranking compression calculator if desired. The formula can be found here:
http://www.popularhotrodding.com/tec...on_ratio_tech/ (Although it appears a better value for 'K' for the compression process in a warm, cranking engine is ~ 1.25 or 1.3, rather than the 1.4 value for true adiabatic compression)

SCR is right on per my calculations. Will have to construct a scale crank/rod assembly drawing to verify DCR...
It takes 48 degrees more duration @ 0.006" lift to get the same DCR as at 0.050", thus the program assumes this is the 0.006" to 0.050" duration difference or 'intensity' of the cam. This is somewhere near average for performance hydraulic rollers, but many cams, especially aggressive solid rollers are much less. If one has both figures available, which will give the more accurate DCR? Another way to phrase the question is: What valve lift does the program assume to be the point at which the backflow ceases and compression begins on the compression stroke?
