Evans WP necessary with Darton MID sleeves?

Default Evans WP necessary with Darton MID sleeves?

I was just wondering if the evans water pump is mandatory with the darton sleeved engines. I know the evans coolant is required, but what about the pump? I'm sure it would be better, but will the stock pump get me by for a while? Will the Evans coolant work with the stock pump?

Also, is anyone running regular dex-cool with the darton sleeves? Just curious.

after droping all that money on getting the block sleeved I wouldnt run anything else.

The Darton MID's require the Evans coolant, but the pump is not "required", however, it's recomended. Do not run any other coolant on a MID sleeve.

Thanks guys. I will definately upgrade the water pump at some point. I was just wondering if it was a "must" because of the coolant type for some reason.

Be sure and flush your system thoroughly before you switch to the Evans coolant. Don't forget the heater hoses and system. If it's not completely flushed out, the Evans coolant will turn gooey when it mixes with any residual antifreeze fluid. I know from personal experience.

Why wouldnt you use the Evans pump if you wre using Evans coolant? they go hand in hand. I'm not sure that it would make that much of a difference without the pump. I know it's definitly a bad idea to run regular coolant in an Evans pump. They make a prep fluid you run through your system before you use the Evans coolant.

The coolant is the main difference. I doubt the pump is of much consequence. However, if you are going all-out, follow the builder's reccomendations.

I have a Darton block, run Evans coolant and pump and the hottest my engine has ran was 202 degrees, and that was in stop and go traffic in 100 degree weather with the stock thermostat. So I'd use the pump.

Default Evans pump

The Evans pump has a more efficient impeller design than the stock pump. The Evans pump was designed with beefier bearings and shaft.

The Evans pump provides much more even bank to bank coolant volume above 5,000 rpm than the stock pump. We had Caldwell run back to back tests for us a couple of years back.

Evans uses a slightly smaller pulley on their pump to increase pump rpm. This aids cooling at slower crank speeds. That's a major reason why Evans pumps provide much better engine cooling in stop and go traffic.
