Gee, Kurt are you guys going to use a timing light on my 383 stroker after W2W installs it later this month? I can't wait to see Rich pull that timing light out while he's tuning it on the dyno

i put a timing light on my motor, just to see how close the commanded timing (VIA HPtuners cable) is to the timing light.

just use a piston stop to find TDC on #1.
make a pointer from piece of piano wire, and put it under a front cover bolt.
mark the balancer/pulley... now you can only see the front edge of the line because of the belt... so put a little 90* turn down on the pointer, so you can read it from the front of the pulley easier..

then just use the timing light... it'll jump around, unless you use a tuning device to make it hold a constant advance. (just like disconnecting the timing wire on a stock thirdgen or other GM computer controlled HEI car)

BTW, not suprisingly, mine was dead on... even after a few thousand miles.. (meaning no pulley slip)

i cant say it was really useful, but i was bored.

I didnt have time to read through all the posts, but in case someone didnt mention the obvious (IMO) oil delivery will be a HUGE deal when you have an engine spinning that high. Id definately raise an eyebrow as to how youre gonna get oil to those higher ranges.
