Default Rod Side Clearance, How is too Much?

I'm putting together and LS gen III 5.3L opened to 5.7L.

I received the mahle forged pistons and the H Forged rods.

Once torqued the rods, the Side clearance was 0.035"

Referring to the OEM Specs the maximum value here goes to 0.020"

If I go away with that much clearance, what kind of failure should I spec?

The Engine is Turbo boosted to 8psi.

You should be fine. You will be moving more oil thru the rod bearings which will keep them cooler. Probably not good if you want to run the engine 100,000 miles though.

You CAN NOT leak more oil out of the rods than the bearing clearances allow. Whether it be .015", or a FOOT... only so much oil can come out of the rod. It is only a restriction if it's "tighter" than your bearing clearances.

There are dangers of running too much side clearance, but you're not gonna run into them with only .035" clearance.
