SHOOT: GTO + $200 Point-and-Shoot, Latest Shots
I picked up a little $200 Panasonic Lumix off Amazon and it came in late last week. This was my first time out with it to really put it through it's paces. All my car shoots will still be with my Nikon, but I just wanted a pocket camera to carry around with me more often when the D300 is inconvenient or at parties, gatherings, and events when I want to enjoy myself more than deal with my D300, but still get some shots to remember the occassion by. I'll rarely use it for car shoots, but I wanted to see how this camera did with a familiar subject so I set out the other day into the harsh noon sunlight with a dirty GTO, nowhere to go, and a $200 point-and-shoot. Onto the shots. I'll provide some commentary...
1 - Bad exposure, location was behind a department store, I was in the sun and the car was in the shade and the camera didn't like it one big, I left this location after a few shots
2 - New location for the next few shots, found it driving down the road and pulled in, no idea what this place was, bright sun, I put the sun at my back to get even light on the car on the rest of these shots and started shooting

8 - On this shot I was shooting into the sun so it gave the window the blown out look, but the camera was focused on the center stack so it was metering and exposing for that, so it make it a good shot without distracting stuff in the windows and made it where I didn't have to resort to photoshop to blow out the window
9 - I took this shot in my driveway in the shade after I got back from the shoot, the shade kept the light nice, soft, and even
10 - Another "in the driveway" shot, it was daylight but I was in the shade, so I cut the lights on, got the camera up close, held it steady, and let her rip
Post-Processing Workflow: Crop/Resize > Curves > Unsharp Mask
I kept the processing simple, as I usually do, because I didn't want to overdo the shots. I'm sure I could have "fixed" them more, but I just wanted to see what I was working with with this little camera. I can say that the LCD is awesome, the shots looked awesome on location, but weren't so good once on the computer. I also wish I would have gotten a point-and-shoot with a viewfinder instead of LCD only because I like looking through one plus it helps to stabilize the camera, and I also wish I had all or at least some manual settings instead of being stuck in auto mode or choosing shooting modes. I traded that stuff at this price point for 10x optical zoom and HD video modes, so I'm OK with it. Overall it's a nice little camera. I've had good luck with Canon's point-and-shoot line and now Panasonic's Lumix line also.

I won't even try on that one. I'm nearly the worst camera phone photographer I know. Somehow I can be steady with a camera in my hands but my camera phone shots always look like I'm having a seizure during taking the picture.

Thanks guys. I appreciate all the kind words. I just hope that those of you interested in photography can use it as motivation to go out and play with your cameras a little and go take some good shots, because you can, you just have to know you can.
