Default TA LED tails - idea

I want to make some LED tail lights for my TA. I want to keep the honeycomb but somehow change the red to a clear or opaque look, and have leds behind it. You guys follow me? Anyone got experience?

for the tails to be a different color i think you will need to get inside b/c i believe it is a relflective red and the bulbs are just clear. im sure brian is figuring some sort of led tail for a trans am. he has everything else led

I know exactly what you're saying

It could be badass

You need to build a lense, a clear lense. And I might be able to hook you up with individual LEDs in red if I still have them all....

You cant clear the TA tails becase the red is like melted into the plastic, i have alredy taken a broken 98+ light apart its not like the old school lights before 98 when you can slip the red plastic out. If you find a way put me on the list first for a set

I know it sound a bit retarded, but Pepboys has LED bulbs that snap in to the factory sockets. That may slove a bit of trouble. They also offer them in different colors. My buddies Saturn had them.
About the red on teh tail lights that is different story.

So he could trade for old ones and night shade them, then take out the red.

Thanks but those LEDs are not going to give the same effect as what im looking for, if were thinking of the same thing.

I got this idea from looking at a b&w pic of a TA. This would look real dope, Im gonna figure it out. As far as turn signals/flashers would I just use a resistor but have them wired to the same leds used for the brakes? I dont have much experience with leds, let me know what u guys think. Thanks

you cant clear the 98-02 4th gens, but you can clear the lt1 4th gens. Ive done it with led bulbs, it would look killer with led strips though.

That wont work, the red is on the honeycomb lens.

Yes... crappy pictures, but it gives you the idea.

The honeycombs do not have a removable red insert, it is part of the entire outer lens.
