Write-Up: Non-Projector HIDs for Firebird/Trans Am

4x6 housing is larger than the 98-02 firebird housings. From the looks of it, they will use a flat lense housing which will push a good size projector deeper into the housing. Pop up headlights don't allow for a lot of room behind the bucket. We will have to wait and see.

BLS (a sponsor) has setups for the 1993-1997 & 1998-2002 Firebirds using HID projectors.
1993-1997 --- FX-R projector
1998-2002 --- Mini D2S 2.0 projector
BLS is looking into swapping the 1998-2002 version to use the Mini D2S 3.0 projector, but has some size issues with it.

LMC Truck Wiring Harness??
I ordered the LMC High and Low's are those HID's or Halogen's? Because I honestly don't notice a difference from what is currently on my car.. I can post pictures later, I did NOT order the "Heavy Duty Headlight Harness" - http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cd/full.aspx?Page=61 - Do I have to order it or not? I was confused because I don't see anything about it on any of the two threads I've read through, But they say use it on their website.. But it's also for trucks and says it does not work with DRL's, although I'm assuming that's with DRL's that are also high beams. So if anyone can get back to me that'd be great!

The LMC Truck housings are Halogen. No you don't need the heavy duty harness. However, it is a "supporting mod". If your stock wiring is really old it will help. If you plan to add HID it will help. However, I would recommend against putting HID into those Halogen Reflector Housings.
If I remember correctly, the LMC Truck housings use 9005/9006 bulbs. Get a set of HIR 9011/9012 bulbs and you'll see a difference.
HIR = Halogen Infrared Reflective
HID = High Intensity Discharge
HIR is a halogen bulb with a special coating to reflect IR back to the filament to burn hotter/brighter. The coating is almost clear / iridescent, not blue. If you find one with a blue coating, it is fake crap. Although some newer HIR bulbs with the same part numbers are available which still have similar lumen output (brightness) but without their distinctive coating.
You can get Philips 9011/9012 bulbs from Home Depot's website for $18ea. Minor trimming to a tab on the bulb may be needed to fit bulb. Look at the bulbs bases and you'll see.
High Beam
STD - 9005 bulb - 1700 lumen
HIR - 9011 bulb - 2350 lumen
Low Beam
STD - 9006 bulb - 1100 lumen
HIR - 9012 bulb - 1870 lumen
Big Difference.
Also, since I think the LMC Truck Housing's low beam has a built in bulb cap, you may be able to fit a high beam bulb in there. The bulb will need trimming of a tab to fit though. The filament position and shape of low beam and high beam 9005/9006 and 9011/9012 bulbs are nearly same so beam pattern should be preserved. Don't do it if the housing doesn't have a built-in bulb cap.

These are what I've been looking at for the HID conversion.. I still have the LMC housings, which is what I would be using with these bulbs? I've seen 9006 for the low beam, but if I want to do the high beams as well that's the first I've seen the LMC housing is 9005 (I've been looking since I found out they weren't HID's) - unrelated to this.. Is there any way I can get notifications to when people post or reply to a thread? Thanks for your help!

If you want notifications, I think you have to subscribe to the thread and make sure "allow notifications" is set in your profile.
As for HID, please don't put HID in those housings. There will be stray light outside the intended beam pattern which will be blinding to oncomming drivers.
But if you insist, stick with 4300K - 6000k range. 8000k is too blue and they aren't as bright.

I believe there are HID type reflector housings? but I am not sure. I went projector because it is the way to go. It doesn't screw anyone over, and you can see EVERYTHING at night... it is truly amazing.

Haha yeah I know next to nothing when it comes to lighting and I'm still learning cars in general. So many different options I might just wait until Pontiac Nationals to decide - I'm sure I'll find a car or two to compare there

Technically, there were some HID reflector setups that came stock on some cars. However, those reflectors were designed specifically for HID. There is nothing of that currently on the aftermarket and no one bothers attempting to retrofit them onto other cars because a projector is smaller and much easier to retrofit.
If you prefer the look of the stock-style reflectors, try the Halogen HIR bulbs I mentioned above.
Also, check out the Lighting FAQ for more options.

the problem you will run into with hids in highs only is they take about 10 to 30 seconds to go full bright if they were cold. cold meaning not been on. so if you are going to use them to flash or turn on someone that has his highs on, odds are that he will have gone by you before your highs are full bright. I put hids in low and high in my ta and you couldn't tell the highs were on because they took to long to warm up and by then the other guy had gone by me anyway. but its your money do what you want. by the way I have them in lows and fogs and wouldn't go without them. I know this is and old post but I'm just wanted to see what you did and your final out come.

Lolol you're crazy Robbie.. (I think that's your name?) If you do get HIDs in your high beams, make sure not to frequently flash them. Like if your waving someone on and you do the high beam flash.. That's not good for HIDs. Hope this writeup helps you though, I remember seeing you mention you want hids in another thread.
Yes sir. Get the housings from Eurolights, then get the HID ballasts. Everything else is in the writeup!

You can do the high beam swap and just keep them on rite?i like the look of all 4 lights being on

1998-2002 Firebirds already keep all 4 on with High Beam. It's Camaro's that don't but its an easy fix that is covered in a few threads and in the Lighting FAQ.
