Default Local Speed Shop tells me not to balance ET streets??

Well, not really a speed shop. Its a BP gas station and the owner and his sons have been racing a long time. Dad has a 65 fastback stang, huge blower, suicide doors. Its SWEET!

Well anyway, I take my rims and tires down there to get installed/balanced. They tell me I shouldn't balance the ET streets because I'll be running such a low pressure in them.

I had them balanced anyway, but wanted to get some input.

Thanks!

Rick

I'm no tire expert, but I cannot see the logic of not wanting to balance ET STreets. Maybe for the full blown racing slicks that "grow" in circumference by several inches it might be a moot point in balancing them, but I would think that those slicks could still be spin balanced. I'd be interested in what the experts have to say on this.

Maybe if you just planned on using them for the track but they are a DOT tire. Sooner or later you will have them on the street and the vibration will drive you nuts.
I think that you did the right thing by having them balanced

definately want them balanced, and spin balanced at that. Some rim/tire combos can be too light to balance on older style floor balancers, but it helps!

Just make sure they used "tape on" weights and put a piece of Duct Tape over them. A clip on weight will fling right off.

the reason they say that is because as you do burnouts on them and use the rubber off of the carcas, the tire weight changes and so dies the shape. i have had many sets of slicks/et streets and have had both balanced and unbalanced, and sooner or later they all ride the same way. if you want a smooth ride, then get a drag radial

I believe its the ET drags that are not supposed to be spin balanced. But they do recommend bubble balancing them.
This is because of the low pressure, and the fact that they GROW on the topside of the track.

I am not sure what the recomendation is for ET streets. I had mine balanced, and had no problems.

To be sure I would check the M/T website...I believe they post their recomendations there.

Thanks all.

As I mentioned, I went ahead and had them balanced.

Taken a couple highway trips with them and they're all good.

Don't hook as much as I'd like on the street, but they're 100 times better than the F1's. They leave serious burnout marks.
