Well the FINAL plan for the 69 LS1 Camaro has been finalized
Well mostly (Rob should get a laugh out of that)
After careful consideration here is what I came up with..
Drivetrain:
2000 LS1 with big cam and stage II heads..
A4 trans with 3200ish TCI stall converter
Custom Alum driveshaft
3:73 gears in a built 10 bolt (old school) with strange axels and c-clip eliminators (already in the car)
Support systems:
Aeromotive sumped and baffled fuel tank with billet pump and goodies
B-Cool radiator with electric fans
Brakes:
13" Wilwood 6 piston front
12" Wilwood 4 piston rear
Suspension:
DSE rear drop leafs with relocation pads (aleady on car)
Subframe connectors
Global West Tubular upper and lower A-arms
QA1 coil over front springs
Possible rack/pinon system from Steeroids www.speeddirect.com
Car will be Blue Pear Metallic with spiral grey Z28 stripes. Dash an interior metal will also be spiral grey. Engine bay black with charcoal grey powdered subframe. block and heads bare alum with all brackets smoothed and done in matching blue pearl powder. Silver FRC with blue and charcoal pinstriping. blue LS6 intake (someday chrome or better.. a magnacharger like Tony)
A simple no big frills interior for now with modern buckets, matching back seat, Covans dash (with Autometer guages) and a hidden audio system. Im considering a simple 6 point cage.
Same 18" wheels and tires.. eventually some HRE's in the Z06 styled pattern. Maybe Iforged will come out with some by then.
The car is stipped down and at the painter now.. makes me dizzy thinking of all the details..
Oh, I got the entire LS1 engine, trans, wiring, accesroies, computer and all for $2800 Motor only had 23k on the clock.. since its from a 2000 Camaro SS i guess I can keep my name..
Of course some things will change along the way but this is the plan I hope to stay with..
Just thought Id share

EDIT: Don't forget to add it to the list of conversions in the Hybrid section.

Sounds awesome! How much is that gonna cost you in the end? I'm sure that it will be worth it, though. Also, what exactly does blue pearl metallic look like? Photoshop, anyone? Look forward to seeing it!!!

It looks remarkably like the blue pearl use on the WRX.. a medium blue color.. I looked at electron blue and Out-of-the-blue but they were both too dark except when light hit them.
I should have Sandy send me back all my LS1 bling goodies from my old SS..

FRCs are played out Steve, those are the easy way out. Get some nice billet valvecovers, or those upcoming cast ones from SDPC and paint or polish them as you please. There is a ton of room to relocate the coil packs on 1st gens. Maybe some billet valvcovers with a machined out logo "Z069 Camaro" on them in contrasting letter color.

Sounds to me like your building a Bankers CheeZ069. Way to executize a Legend!!! What's next on your wish list Dub's with spinner's ?
As for the Auto.. there are reasons.. first is that its a MUCH easier swap.. second the car has no emergency brake system due to the c-clip eliminated rear end so while I could park the car in gear that really wouldnt be safe. besides, nothing wrong with an auto, perhaps it will help my drag racing skills

Bringing a beautiful car into the 21st century is preserving a legend.

Have you seen a Muscle car that was brought up to date in the 1980s they look out dated like parachute pants and Big Hair. An original resto looks good in any decade.

So what part offends you? the LS1? the upgraded brakes? I guess I should just build one to be like the other multitudes of restored Camaros.. i could understand if mine was some special model but its just a plain jane SS (and im not even sure its that).. I build cars for today, not for whats going to be "cool" in 20 years.. but hey, you entitled to your opinion Thanks for clarifying..

Sounds like a winner to me Steve. Filter out the nonsense. You're typically good at doing that on the boards.
