Default side trim removal and "trans am" letters???

i have a black 2002 TA, i really want to take the side moldings off and the letters that say Trans Am.....whats your opinion on it, will it hurt the paint under it, will it be darker than the rest of the car? it looks fine now, and im a little scared to go for it and possibly screw something up....lets here from some of you that have tackled this job...thanks in advance

Take off the molding, I hear some used a heat gun to help removal. Be careful not to remove the clearcoat.

I did mine yesterday, get the eraser wheel to use with a drill and it made it painless. You'll need adhesive remover to get small amount of residue up. One of the easiest mods I have ever done, took about an hour. Also a 90 degree pick will make a breeze to pull off the side molding.

same idea as demonstrated by a redneck

i did some searching and got a few responses that were interesting....i see where people are either heating them up and pulling off, or cutting with line or something and then cleaning up the rest of the sticky stuff.

i am really wondering if the paint on a black car is going to stand out in color after being covered for so many years? and or if the clear is going to pull off or something?

i dont want to screw it up you know, lol.....but it does look so good with the molding gone!!!

I did mine in 30 degree weather outside, didn't heat anything up. Put the pick in the end, grabbed and pulled, most of the double sided tape stayed stuck on the door. Use that eraser wheel and work it thru, and thats it. I don't see how anybody can screw this up, it's that easy, and does make it look a lot cleaner.

I pulled off my Formula badges with fishing line and Goo Gone. It took about an hour for both of them, just took a little elbow grease to get all the adhesive off. You really can't tell that there were ever badges there unless you look at just the right angle, up close, in bright sunlight.

I want to take off my trim, too, but I started on one side and noticed some bubbling clear coat, so that will have to wait until I can afford to get both doors re-cleared (they need it anyway).

Here's how it looks.. Like some other posters stated, just use fishing line to remove and I just used my thumb to roll the excess tape off.. I also removed my pewter Trans Am letters and replaced them with black vs using the overlays..

Removed trim and lettering- I took the vinyl overlays to graphics place and had them align the lettering on a backing strip to make it easy to line up the stickers on the door.
