Default Soot from exhaust on rear bumper

How do I remove soot from the rear bumper without damaging the paint? It's really obvious and nasty looking on white paint. So far I have tried Windex, Simple green, and dish soap, but nothing seems to work. I used brake cleaner to get the same stuff off my exhaust tips and it took some rubbing to get them clean. I know I can't use anything as harsh as brake cleaner on paint. What does everyone else here use? I believe this is a common problem on T/As.

LOL I already CETA'd it earlier, but the soot is still visible on the surrounding white paint.

Try a clay bar. Should work no problem.

As a last resort, 2000 grit wetsand and compound. Just don't go through the clear or you will be very unhappy!

Try WD-40 for a quick fix. But what I would do is use a mild cleaner wax.

I got a Mother's claybar kit. Worked like a charm. Really cleaned up a lot of grit and debris that was already embedded in the paint on the rear bumper. Will go over the rest of the car too now .
